Bobby Jenks dismisses book’s claims; Octavio Dotel looks fit
By Mark Gonzales
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Closer Bobby Jenks dismissed comments about him during his stint in the Los Angeles Angels’ organization in a recent issue of Sports Illustrated.
“It’s just someone trying to make some money,” Jenks said.
In an excerpt of “Odd Man Out,” a book to be published later this year, minor league pitcher Matt McCarthy wrote of one instance where Jenks arrived 15 minutes late to practice and was sarcastically greeted by Angels minor league field coordinator Bruce Fields.
“Just trying to help the Angels win a World Series,” Jenks was quoted as saying.
Jenks said he never met McCarthy and that he was alerted of the book and the unflattering comments by Angels scout Tom Kotchman and his son Casey Kotchman, who now plays for the Atlanta Braves.
In the story, McCarthy alleged that Jenks told him that faking a back injury would get him out of weight lifting. The story adds that Jenks alleged that former teammate Derrick Turnbow was on steroids and that he was a bargain for the Angels after signing a $175,000 bonus.
Relever Octavio Dotel isn’t sure if he would accept an invitation to pitch for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic if placed on their final roster.
Dotel, looking noticably thinner, said he lost seven pounds.
Jose Contreras dropped 30 pounds and now weighs 225.

But Frank Thomas was always his own guy, he always lived by some sort of code that wasn’t especially clear to anyone but him.

I don't see anything...
URL of the jpeg please?
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
for some reason that article isn't on the website

American League NRIs of Note
Chicago White Sox: The White Sox’ decision to sign Mike MacDougal to a three-year contract after the righty threw 25 good innings for them in 2006 was a bit odd. Now, MacDougal is both in the final year of that deal and off of the 40-man roster, having posted a 51/45 K/BB in his last 59 1/3innings. The Sox are deep in right-handed relief, so MacDougal faces an uphill battle. However, he may be the biggest arm in that pen and he can still miss bats, so there are reasons to believe he could put up a big year.

It's definitely a funny.......
but man, if MacDougal could somehow replicate his final 25 innings of ’06 what a guy to throw out in the 6th or 7th inning with Dotel, Linebrink, Thornton, Jenks to follow…..
by the way, scott merkin finally has a blog. last person in the world to get one.

Contreras looking at May or June return?
According to Cowley:
Not only is Jose Contreras 30 pounds lighter, but looks to be 10 years younger – making him now appear to be 40. The right-hander wasn’t expected back from his ruptured Achilles tendon until July or August, but now has May or June on his radar.
White Sox: Trying to roll a hard six.

Done.
I’ll meet you at a game in early June. If he hasn’t pitched by 5/31, you win.
You are in charge of reminding me.

fucksticks
you know what really piss me off? i’m out 20 fucking bucks to ballyb AND this bronze horse motherfucker does a rush job on his rehab, starts well before june 1st, and injures himself again taking the team down with him.
you and colin already exchange comments on comps for other types of injuries (b/c count’s is a unique case), and i think you mentioned tommy john as the closest comp. don’t you think then that germ is doing a rush job on him?? herm has a great rep, so i don’t want to critique his management/treatment of players either.

I'll let you out for $12.50.
Contribute $12.50 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (https://www.cff.org/GetInvolved/ManyWaysToGive/Donate/) and we’ll call it even. Or,………………
roll the bones and I’ll see you in June.
"I am not going out like SSH. "
by WTGTD, 12/3/08
nah, nah, don't misinterpret, i'm not backing out ballyb
and if you were sincere about the donation option, that’s cool, i would consider doing the same thing too!
i’m really peeved about a possible rush job. mid-to-late may, aaight, i can deal with that. but competing for the #5 slot to start the season?? something doesn’t feel right, don’t you think? but then again you were thinking late april at the earliest, what’s your reasoning?
by onlysoxfaninboston on Feb 17, 2009 8:30 PM CST up reply actions
They aren't going to rush him.
The guy is a savage. And most medical people think 12 mos. is way too long for Achilles rehab. It’s just released to the general public so they don’t undershoot the time.
"I am not going out like SSH. "

alright then
i hate to wager against myself, but it would be sweet if the count eats up innings and pitches effectively earlier rather than later

if he is ready to be a real life MLB quality starter by Aug 1
that will be great. if there’s a playoff run to be made, Count should be there for a two month boost.
