Hoytsstash Opening Day Review / Fat Tire Bound

Well my fellow SSS "friends".  I figured I'd give you a Hoytsstash summary of his trip to "Opening Day".  It was about 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky...walked in the front gate about 1pm for a 1:05pm start.  Ordered a tall $8.00 Fat Tire off the tap a bag of $4.00 Spitz seeds.  Girl used a calculator to figure the change.  Probably the reason Arizona is one of the lower ranked public school funded states in the country.  I should have known something was amiss.  1st inning started promising, then, push-bunt, base-hit, then F9, F9 and F8 I think.

At any rate, as I was working on a good sun-burn I observed the following -- Dotel looked real bad, both in the bullpen and on the mound.  AJ had a great day, 2 for 3 I think.  Flowers looked like a JV High School bullpen catcher both on offense and defense -- Struck out looking with two strikes and a runner in scoring position and 2 past balls, one resulting in a run when the "game" was tight.  I guess his NBA tattoo didn't help today.  Great defensive plays by both Dye running into the wall in the second and Fields a great pick in the same inning.  Richards looked good.

At any rate, you guys should get out here.  Good sun burn weather, cold beer if you drink it fast enough, and Ozzie being Ozzie outside the dugout.  Cuz I know you guys give a shit.

Very sub par as I review it....but thanks

the four $8 Fat Tires may have had something to do with it….and I patronized the girl for the calculator…
Nix carried himself well, however. Thome out-front on his at-bats it seemed. Dye too. Che hit the ball hard, one right at Wood the 3rd baseman, local kid. Not much of a crowd, thought there would be more people there…many of the seats open…..Sat in the LF lawn for a while, then we made our way to the seats behind the dish….where I proceeded to see Flowers fail. I think he’ll improve though…we can only hope.
At any rate, fun in the sun…..too many Fat Tires at $8 a pop (who’s the idiot).
As usual, a bunch of #60s through #90s in the later innings….
What I did notice,,,,,all the Angel starters stayed in the dugout late in the game…I think Ozzie may be in the habit of letting our guys go home when they’re done…..Sox Dugout empty in the 7th, 8th, 9th.
Weather is Az weather in the winter/spring….perfect.

Diablo stadium, where the Angels play, is close to where I live....10 minutes.

A’s are about 5 minutes from ASU……still close……
Most other teams are about a 30/40 minute drive west from Tempe…..including the Sox.
I try to catch games at A’s and Angels stadium unless I plan on driving a bit….traffic can be a bitch going/coming from the west….one way there, one way back…..Phoenix area has grown in population quite a bit in the last 10 years….

Yeah I was surprised at how big it was when I was down there

Went down there in like 05 or 06 to see a few concerts and some friends, was surprised with the amount of driving you have to do. Everything is so spread out.

i liked it out there despite the traffic

i made it down for 2006 spring training.
Went to Surprise stadium, Peoria stadium, Scottsdale sports complex, one other one, maybe Goodyear, cant recall, it was a good time.

we found a chicago style pizza place in mesa, the guy got his sausage and crust shipped from chicago, his cheese shipped from wisconsin, it was a nice find.

"...and Ms. Boston just walked by in a red/yellow sweater."
"Theres a lot of Ms Bostons at Fenway tonight."
"Well, maybe shes Miss greater Boston, shes about an eleven and a half."
