Watch. All the spring talk about Beckham, Dayan making the team...
And it will be Allen who makes it as the sub for Thome at DH.
(not knowing of course whazup with his back.)

allens not advanced enough
they want him to work on strike outs
viciedo has cuban team experience, more of a quicker fix for this.
allen would be long term 1b dh
plus viciedo can be backup dh and backup 3b
allen wastes as spot as a sole dh backup since we already have paulie at first
Jul 5, 2002: Back injury, day-to-day.
is his earliest record of back injury

most of his career injuries are back soreness but they all have been day to day so i don’t think this is anything serious

oh snap
Dan Hudson, RHP, Chicago White Sox
The Sox drafted Hudson in the fifth round last year out of Old Dominion, though at one point he was considered a second round candidate. Command and mechanical problems hurt his stock, but he rebounded in pro ball with a 3.36 ERA and a sharp 90/22 K/BB ratio in 70 innings in the Pioneer League after the Sox revamped his delivery. He hits 90 MPH, and his slider and changeup are promising. He gets a good number of ground balls, and could be a number three or four starter if his control holds up.
But Frank Thomas was always his own guy, he always lived by some sort of code that wasn’t especially clear to anyone but him.
His fellow mate
Dexter Carter seems to get a lot of the love, but I do have a liking for Hudson.
Getz still in lead for second
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090311&content_id=3968030&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cws
That fit intangible ultimately might push Beckham to a Minor League start, moreso than the experience factor. Beckham is an outgoing and confident kid who seems to be a great clubhouse fit among the established veteran core.
In regard to the skill set needed at second, though, the edge might swing to Getz
So is it safe to say
2B is between Getz and Beckham at this point?

yeah
nix and lillibridge have no impact so far and when they get back from various ailments theyll be facing harder pitching as it gets closer to opening day.
the only limit on beckham not being 2b now is that he has to be a starter, so he would be seasoned as a starter in the minors, not a backup in the majors.
interstingly, the article also said that kw expects the 2b man to play 1,2 8,9. so Becks is gonna be either a 1 or 2 hitter in the lineup
Should've asked here before buying, but -- by raise of hands or whatever -- how many people have bought and/or read MGL's/Tango's 'The Book'? Worthwhile purchase?
Don't know, but Jim's book works well in a windstorm.

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

the messiah will be at short tomorrow
Gordon Beckham doubled and drove in two runs on Wednesday and will start at shortstop on Thursday in Surprise. Beckham has five doubles and 18 total bases this spring, leading the team in both categories.
Here’s an interesting comment from Ken Williams that didn’t make it into my Wednesday story. In that story, the White Sox general manager admitted the team’s top pick from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft has as good of a chance as Nix, Chris Getz or Brent Lillibridge to break camp with the team BUT only as a starter at second base.
“He’s playing the game and having fun,” said Williams of Beckham. “He’s going to be a good player. He’s been impressive since we drafted him, and obviously, he was impressive before then for us to draft him.”

yeah. that's an amazing quote. how could he have possibly left it out.

Nevermind, I read it wrong
I thought it was saying he ommited a quote from Kenny saying that Beckham has as good of a chance as Nix, Getz, and Lillbridge…ect.

the story referred to by merkin.
“Oh, yes. He’s starting at that position or starting in the Minors,” said Williams during a talk just prior to Wednesday’s 6-2 Cactus League victory over the Brewers at Camelback Ranch. “That’s the only caveat I’m going to put on Ozzie and his coaching staff.”

he wants the boy to be playing everyday
i think this statement is more or less conclusive (barring injury to getz or something drastic in a bad way) that beckham is going south. do we need more discussion on this topic???

of course. the cheat is seriously ill. he needs ad revenue to pay his mounting medical bills. we're just drumming up the page views, baby.

we can do better than gordon beckham to drum up page views
where’s hoodie?

nope. we've looked at the numbers. gordon beckham is the thing that draws people to this site.
look at the google searches. why do you think i write about this every goddamn day even though nothing has changed? i’m creating a story. calling out beat writers. pretending that some beat writers are saying one thing, others are saying another. it’s all bullshit. beckham is starting at SS in birmingham. ask rick hahn.

so if KW is to be trusted (and probably not) that means he's starting at 2B or starting (somewhere) in the minors.
To me that sounds like he’s starting at SS in the minors.
me too
he can use a published quote to build the kid’s confidence (“Hey, he might make the club this year”), without really intending to do anything other than stick to the development plan.
I'm like a laser, six-string razor. I've got a mouth like an alligator
yo, why would KW not be trusted on something like this
we’re not talking trade rumors here.
but of course, i’m hedging that he starts at shortstop down south. the point is that they want him to face live pitching everyday…

damn. easy heat getting it done
I don’t want my beer to taste like fruit or honey. I want pussy to taste that way.
KW's philosophy in building a rotation
While Buehrle may not your typical “ace,” he is No. 1. That’s fine with general manager Ken Williams, who says his theory is “to see how many No. 2’s we can get and on a given day go up against a No. 1 and beat him.”

KW talks leadoff
While White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen says center fielder Jerry Owens is “fighting for his job,” he and general manager Ken Williams say they do not need a speedster at the top of the order.
“A lot of people get too hung up with stolen base totals,” Williams said. "One of the reasons I got [Scott Podsednik] was to steal bases but he also came with an on-base percentage of about .350.
"The goal is to get to second base to get in scoring position. So a leadoff hitter who will hit you 30 doubles and then steal you, instead of 40 bases, maybe 15 [is fine].

less speed, more power!
how much to the have to pay the Players -- that's what she said -- of the league like BA?
Stay away from the computer for a few days.
You’re still obviously drugged.
