Contreras' Return to the Mound a Success
Facing his first batter since August 9, Jose Contreras needed just three pitches to strike out Chris Woodward looking. Yuniesky Betancourt worked the count full before being out-prided by Jose and flying out deep to center. Ken Griffey then took Jose to a full count before striking out looking.
In his second inning of work, he gave up a leadoff single to Adrian Beltre and then fanned two swinging before getting Prentice Redman to ground out.
He threw 44 pitches, 26 for strikes, and his velocity was up to 90-93.

You just quoted all of that in the gamethread.
...and then some depressed fucked-cake eating.
THANK YOU!
“so?” is right. I don’t often read the comments, and they always cover so many things that should be FP’d, so I miss them. Thanks larry for putting this up there.
I was kidding, for the record. I wouldn't wish most gamethreads upon people who are not presently participating in the gamethreads. Or even those that are.

we are aware that lots of people don't read the comments (especially gamethread comments - i usually don't either during the season)
so i am and will make an effort to ensure that more relevant content reaches the front page.
are you volunteering then to mine the gamethreads this season for worthwhile stuff?
you’d more than earn your SSS paycheck for that.
I'm like a laser, six-string razor. I've got a mouth like an alligator
no. i doubt anyone will post anything interesting that i don't already see myself.
i think the poster is referring to how we all often just post links in the comments and sometimes the stuff should be fanshoted or otherwise given a bit higher of a profile. using this thread as an example, i put this on the front page during the game because plenty of people wanted to know how contreras did but may not want to parse through the gamethread to figure it out. so, summarize in one post on the front page.
According to one radar gun, Contreras’ fastball topped out at 93 m.p.h., with his split-finger fastball clocked at 76 m.p.h.
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
jose
Two scouts said Contreras’ fastball was clocked consistently in the 91-93 m.p.h. range, with those pitches tailing and sinking more when he threw from a sidearm angle.
Contreras’ slider was about 84 m.p.h. and his split-finger fastball 76.

Great News
His recovery is everything short of a miracle. It will be nice to have him back in the rotation.

this is an elementary concept. same thing as out-underachieving or out-hustling. jose had more cuban pride than betancourt.

Jose is one of my guys.
I am so happy that he is on the field… the fact that he actually looked good makes it even better! If it wasn’t for Jose in August and September 05…the sox would not have made the playoffs….. Crede or not.

This is me banging my head against the wall
Another player who got a kick start was Jerry Owens, who made a diving catch in center field and got two hits to raise his batting average to .225 as he attempts to win the leadoff spot.
“The last three games he started swinging the bat better, but with no results,” Guillen said. “I don’t care about results. I just want to see him get good at-bats, and he’s been doing that lately.”
White Sox: Trying to roll a hard six.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

Jerry owens hits 2 fucking singles and he's back in the mix...?
WTF…?
Was Ozzie sleeping when BA banged out 2 hrs, 5 rbis, and 8 honeys..?
It's called Sex Panther by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
keep up, ED.
ozzie has already said BA is a lock for the roster. not that we didn’t know that already. it’s the lefties who are fighting it out.
I just don't want to see anything about Jerry Owens besides his release.
It’s not like someone is going to trade us for him, so why are they talking him up. DeWayne Wayne Wise is backup material but, at least he supposed to be in the big leagues.
I flat hate Jerry Owens.. I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire…

But Frank Thomas was always his own guy, he always lived by some sort of code that wasn’t especially clear to anyone but him.
poreda talks and what will the bullpen look like?
Bobby Jenks, Matt Thornton, Scott Linebrink and Octavio Dotel are locks at the back end of the White Sox bullpen. Clayton Richard and Jeff Marquez are pretty close to the same certain status if Jose Contreras and Bartolo Colon break camp as part of the rotation.
That roster math leaves one spot open, if the White Sox take seven relievers, with Poreda and D.J. Carrasco standing as the prime candidates. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and Cooper would prefer a third lefty to join Thornton and Richard, and while outside options exist such as Will Ohman, the team has reached its spending limit at this point.
should I be worried about egbert getting his shot?

“My change is coming along nicely, too,” Poreda said. “I got a strikeout with it looking [against Cleveland], and I don’t think it has every happened before in my career as a pitcher. It’s moving along.”

take a load of what this guy said on one of scott merkins blogs
Hey Scott when is the next batch of White Sox Inbox coming? Also is there any possibility of trading some of our prospects? I mean Getz, The Cuban Missle, Beckham, Poreda, Richard, Broadway, Owens, the list goes on and on. We have too many prospects and not enough places to play them. It seems to me that either we are saving them for some unknown reason or……. we really don’t think they are that good. With 4 major league ready starters why sign Colon? It just doesn’t seem to make sense.

kroeger for cf?
—With all the talk about the center field battle and the handful of reserve roster spots, don’t forget Josh Kroeger. He had three hits in yesterday’s B Game and manager Ozzie Guillen once again raved about him Saturday afternoon.
“I really like what he does,” said Guillen of Kroeger, who also can play center field. “We are definitely going to get him more at-bats.”

sorry if it seems like i keep posting but im bored and some of this stuff is good
can he play CF?
If so, he’s a better option than Owens. He had an .887 OPS last year and is 26. Owens had a .662 OPS and is 28.
