they'll probably do a few more after today's game.
minor league camp officially starts tomorrow. after that it will just be rolling cuts.
So what's the difference between being optioned to AAA or AA
and being reassigned to minor-league camp?
White Sox: Trying to roll a hard six.
means where they're going to play.
reassigned to minor league camp means the white sox haven’t decided where they’re going (some of those guys may end up being released instead of being in the white sox system).
I was expecting Allen to go to AAA.
I don't need to look at fancy stats
to see if a guy is good or not. You might have to.

Well, either he can play AAA ball or not

You are right. But larry is actually a prick too.

I just dont understand why Viciedo gets to go to AAA when Allen stays in AA.
Two months in AA is a whole shit lot more to go on than a couple weeks of limited play in ST.

Im just questioning the logic in the decisions
Im not saying someone should go to one place or another. Me expecting Allen in AAA isnt the same as saying he should be there.

the logic seems rather sound to me.
i don’t know what you’re getting at. if we believe translations that the cuban league is approximately AA, viciedo has been there for years. probably could use a challenge, no?
Ok thats a good way of putting it.
Thanks for your ever present wisdom.

Weren't there some concerns about keeping Viciedo with Spanish speaking players as well?
Though I haven’t really looked at the make-up either roster, so I don’t know whose argument that would support.
i think i may have mentioned something like this.
it was more of a who he’s comfortable with sort of thing possibly being a consideration. both teams are going to have a significant numbers of spanish speakers (as you can already see from these cuts).
Or at least I dont think its the same.

Viciedo to AAA is interesting -- I would have thought AA.

It seems like they are quite taken with him.
Fields ought to be looking over his shoulder.

Interesting to see what his power numbers will be like
playing half his games in Knights Stadium.
obviously they think he can play there.
but there are also some organizational issues regarding finding playing time for the 3Bs in the system. retherford is likely to be in AA, castillo now looks SOL at AAA, which isn’t exactly a problem, of course. will be interesting to see where viciedo actually plays/doesn’t play in the field.
Cuban Pimps
Only play AAA or higher… have you seen his car?

oh larry
you forgot to mention that beckham wasn’t cut and his path to the big team remains open
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
here it is
The young phenom Gordon Beckham survived another round of cuts in Arizona. Is the kid coming North with the parent club?

I will be at the game next Wednesday vs. Oakland
Thought I could have seen Viciedo and Flowers. Shit, this really dampers my day.
my president is white.
if you're going to spring training, i don't know why you wouldn't also go to the minor league games.
Bismarck? ND?
Cold up there.

Red Sox released Josh Bard...
Bard hit just .202 in 57 games for the Padres last season while battling ankle problems, but he was productive in two previous seasons in San Diego. In 2006, he hit .338 with nine homers and 40 RBIs in 231 at-bats, and hit .285 with five homers and 51 RBIs in 389 at-bats in 2007.
Bard batted .462 with six hits in 13 at-bats this spring, with a home run and four RBIs. With catching at premium, it’s probable that he will catch on elsewhere.

Wouldn't he make sense for us?

Bus to Uribe's House 9:45
Reunion with Uribe: Several Sox players are making the trip Thursday to Scottsdale to play San Francisco and former teammate Uribe.
“Bus to Uribe’s House 9:45” was inscribed on the clubhouse bulletin board as a reminder of the Sox’s destination.
Among the players scheduled to play against the Giants are Carlos Quentin, Jermaine Dye, Alexei Ramirez, Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Owens, Fields and Getz.

Chris Getz on regular track for Chicago White Sox: Starting second base job appears his to lose
Jayson Nix’s injury probably secured Chris Getz’s chances of winning the White Sox’s starting second base job as well as opening a gap for Brent Lillibridge to win a roster spot.
With Nix out indefinitely because of a right quadriceps strain, Getz’s prospects also improved Wednesday. He raised his batting average to .364 when he extended his hitting streak to eight games after a two-hit performance in the Sox’s 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
“I can’t say that yet,” manager Ozzie Guillen replied as to whether Getz secured the job. “We want that, but I’m not going to say yes when we have [2 1/2] weeks of spring training left.”

Sir Sidney Now a Royal
Just last week we were wondering if former Oriole (and Giant and Yankee and Cardinal and Twin and Ranger) Sidney Ponson was going to get another shot in the majors after a good showing for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic. The answer turned out to be yes.
The Kansas City Royals have inked the troubled starter to a minor league deal and offer him a chance to compete for a starting position.
Gil Meche, Zack Greinke and Kyle Davies are set for their rotation but the Royals are still trying to figure out the back end. The battle seems to be between Luke Hochevar, Brian Bannister, Horacio Ramirez and now Ponson.

Q! and Walker
“A new environment allowed me to grow as a person,” said Quentin, 26. "For some reason, being in Chicago, and being new and not really being noticed, kind of helped me in the sense to go about my business and learn as a hitter.
“I give a lot of credit to (hitting coach) Greg Walker, because we both kind of clicked and came up with new ideas about how to hit and how to improve.”
Walker deflects the credit back to Quentin, saying the right-handed batter spent significant time analyzing video and shared his own ideas with the staff.
Among the adjustments, they worked to limit Quentin’s head movement and improve his posture, allowing him to better see pitches. Last season, he drew a career-high 66 walks, compared to 80 strikeouts.
“He’s a bright guy who figured things out, and a change of scenery did him some good,” Walker said. “There was a lot there to work with.”
Walker praised Quentin’s coachability, saying they agreed on ideas about mechanics, but he said he doesn’t want to stress the mechanical adjustments too much, insisting Quentin would have been successful wherever he went. If he had not broken his wrist, Quentin would have won the MVP title, Walker contends.
