"I just pretty much blow stuff like [well-founded criticism] out the window to be honest with you. That’s where it belongs. Everybody has their own opinion and I’m not one to let that get me down. I know how [manager] Ozzie [Guillen] and my teammates feel about me, how they have confidence in me.’’

"I guess they’re looking at previous years, or previous times where I was put out there on this level,’’ Wise said. "You know, 2000 or 2002, where they’re just looking on the back of my baseball card. It’s 2009 now, it’s not 2000, and I could care less what negativity people want to throw my way. I feel like I’m ready.

"It might not have happened as quickly I was wanted it to, but now I’m ready.’’

STFU Wise.

Fer Chrissakes, enjoy the ride and keep your goddamn mouth shut. With your horseshit history and current performance in China you’d be cannon fodder.

If hate were people, I'd be China.

as a fringy guy who's now gotten another "chance"

I’d expect him to say this. Although its always funny to hear a guy who has never been very successful expect people not to focus on his previous and repeated failures.

And perhaps it was Owens who kept his mouth shut, and hence was perceived to lack “energy” or “fire.”

So beating one's chest means you make the team?

Maybe it had to do with JO’s low AVG/OBP, 1-4 SB average in ST, AND the fact that he wasn’t beating his chest. And this article comes after the fact, so I don’t see it playing into the decision.

But perhaps he IS Roy Hobbs…his life hasn’t turned out as he expected.

If hate were people, I'd be China.

More Wise
Take a look at Wise’s current Cactus League performance, as an example. Through 17 games played and 57 at-bats, Wise was hitting a solid .316. But his on-base percentage checked in at .322, since he had not drawn a single walk in 59 plate appearances.

Spring Training statistics don’t exactly serve as an 100 percent accurate sign of things to come. This instance might be the exception to the rule, as Wise probably won’t be taking five or six pitches with each trip to the plate. It just doesn’t fit into the style that has made Wise successful over the past year with the White Sox.

“That’s when I get in trouble, when I have to take a lot of pitches,” Wise said. "Early in spring, when Ozzie was trying me at the leadoff spot, I was struggling a little bit because I was going up there taking pitches and falling behind in the count. Then, I was swinging at bad pitches and getting myself out.

“Then, Ozzie came to me and said, ‘Look, just because I have you there in the leadoff spot, don’t feel like you have to go up there and take five pitches every at-bat.’ Don’t get me wrong. I’m not going up there to swing at everything. But [Guillen] wants me to keep my aggressiveness.”

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

OK

You all hated Jerry Owens and no one wanted him in the lineup. So he isn’t. However, the guy they choose you also don’t like? What are they supposed to do? It was one or the other for the lefty part of the platoon. Why is this a surprise?

Opening Day is NOT looking good.

I’m playing it in The Show right now (assuming Wise is starting and leading off), and the Sox are down 8-0 in the 8th inning. Take out the Royals runs because I accidently startedly Danks instead of Buehrle, but I am being no-hit by Meche right now. I can only assume Meche will do this exactly on April 6th.

No Hitter broken up!

Konerko singled down the LF line, and then was thrown out going to 2B. Fuck you Meche!

ps3 guy eh?

how do you like “the show” compared to the “2k” games?

He also doesn’t care much for me, so I expect me posting on these things to piss him off.

Columbia

Grew up and went to school right down the road from here. He was already signed before I moved here so I never got to see him play HS ball, but he must’ve been something all right.
