Beckham currently starts at shortstop for the Barons, the same position occupied by Alexei Ramirez for the White Sox. Ramirez started his first year at the position this spring, after playing second for most of his stellar 2008 rookie campaign, and Beckham could make the same sort of position switch if needed. But could Ramirez, arguably the best athlete on the White Sox roster, eventually find himself in center field, if Chris Getz pans out at second base and Josh Fields continues his strong play at third base?

It’s a move that would open up shortstop once again for Beckham. During a brief talk with MLB.com on Monday, manager Ozzie Guillen acknowledged it’s a move that isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility.

“Well, we don’t know,” said Guillen of a possible move for Ramirez from shortstop to center field. "It’s our plans for Ramirez to be the shortstop right now.

“Maybe in the next couple of years or next year, we might change plans. We don’t know what direction we are going to go or how good Beckham is going to be. Really, it’s a good thing for us, a great thing.”

“Alexei will be my shortstop in the pennant race,” Guillen said. "If we are out of the pennant race, then we might change our mind — let’s try this to give Beckham a shot to get his feet wet in the big leagues. Right now, my plans are to keep him down there as the shortstop, and hopefully we don’t have to do that.

“Let’s see what direction we go. Let’s see if this kid can do it at the big league level.”

Wise separates right shoulder for White Sox

DETROIT – White Sox center fielder Dewayne Wise separated his right shoulder Monday and will be lost indefinitely.

Wise suffered the injury while making a diving catch of Ramon Santiago’s drive in the fifth and landed on his right shoulder in immediate pain before he was attended to by manager Ozzie Guillen and trainer Herm Schneider.

Wise will be headed to the disabled list. Brian Anderson took Wise’s place in center, and a roster move is expected before Tuesday’s game. The Sox have two spots open on their 40-man roster, and Triple-A Charlotte outfielder Josh Kroeger could be a possibility for a promotion.

Wise seemed like he was coming around: 5 for his last 11, hitting to left, superb sac bunt yesterday, good glove.

Gratifying after he embarrassed himself over the first three games. Kudos to the mgr for the way he handled him.

Not taking into account that the Sox wouldn’t make this move, as it seems they don’t want to add salary and KW stated he’s not looking to go outside of the organization for a CF, but…

Any ideas on how much would it take to pry Marlon Byrd from the Rangers?

I read the fangraphs article posted previously (by Wiz?), and he seemed to be the best option for the Sox mentioned, given that he’s on a one year contract with the Rangers (at least that’s what ESPN tells me), so he won’t be blocking Jordan Danks in a few years, assuming that Jordan cuts down on his strikeouts ;)

Also, I’m not asking this in an attempt to dance on Wise’s grave, as he very well may be back in a few weeks, but just because I’m curious as to what Byrd’s relative market value would be.

This should be a regular SSS feature, call it the “Elder’s Sweat Lodge” or something. No animated gifs allowed, and keep off the grass!

As long as Fields keeps playing well I think we can get away with putting a cadaver in CF and still win the division. Fields has been great so far, O and D, very pleasant surprise.
