Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

By Mark Gonzales

DETROIT - Further tests revealed that White Sox center fielder Dewayne Wise suffered a Grade 3 separation of his right shoulder.

Wise was placed on the 15-day disabled list and will be lost for at least six weeks.

Outfielder Jerry Owens rejoined the Sox at Comerica Park. The Sox purchased Owens' contract from Triple-A Charlotte. The move puts the Sox's 40-man roster at 39.

Rain fell on Detroit last night, but the tarp covering the infield was pulled off recently. But 15 minutes later, the tarp was put back on.

Ozzie really beating this

Lillibridge thing into the ground . . . maybe it is like a hostage negotiation for Ozzie. You call up Owens, I keep leading off Lillibridge.

Obviously it's not his long term plan

Getz and now Wise are both hurt.. who would you hit leadoff? Fields can’t hit a fastball and Porcello is pitching, Anderson can’t hit anything, AJP / Alexei don’t fit the spot for various reasons and he isn’t going to put one of the big bats there even if it was a good move, there aren’t many managers in baseball who are going to bat Jim Thome leadoff.

He’s a stop gap, that’s what he’s for. It’s Chris Getz job until further notice, let’s hold off on worrying about it until Lillibridge is playing over Getz on a regular basis.

by Grinder in Training on Apr 14, 2009 10:33 AM CDT up reply actions

I didn't realize Getz was hurt,

but following Larry, you might as well have Fields bat leadoff. Not a big deal though . . . bigger point was I just missed the Getz injury over the weekend.

who are you joe cowley?

there’s no drama. but i don’t understand why he doesn’t have fields to leadoff, since he’s been, you know, actually hitting the ball.

it is somewhat interesting that KW didn't consult ozzie prior to the decision.

in the past when there were similar roster decisions, ozzie has stated that he (and other coaches) and KW discussed it before a move is made. sure it’s KW’s ultimate decision. and maybe KW felt there wasn’t going to be any other option because they need a backup who can play center. but it is interesting nonetheless, if only as an insight into the process.

That is what I was seeking form you last night - your opinion.

Thanks.

You gave a postulation on KW's motive, which is interesting, too.

Tough to dissect a decision when it is total speculation re: rationale, but it’s interesting to surmise.

I think we're finally safe from that..

I think BA needs to hope as much for success from Fields and Getz as he does himself. If Fields keeps hitting the ball well, and Getz can be mediocre in the leadoff spot, Anderson won’t need to do much to keep the job. If everything falls apart, I imagine we look to Kroeger, or outside of the organization although I guess Beckham’s still an option if he keeps raking the ball.

The parallels to last year are interesting

Maybe Wise going down, at least for a while gives Anderson that shot, just like Owens’ demise last year made room for the one we all know and love as Q!.

Lurking mostly

Eh, between work and the holiday this weekend, I wasn’t near a computer much. I know everyone’s been missing my banal commentary and google image searches.

Here I have to whole day off and was looking forward to joining in a game thread and the Sox are in rain delay. Goodie.

assuming the white sox are not going to make another move to fill the void,

this is his last chance at grabbing a full-time role (at least for this team). not sure even if he plays well enough he wouldn’t get platooned when/if wise returns. and lillibridge is lurking, too, to take PAs. but with owens in the doghouse and lillibridge probably better suited to more of a bench/pinch runner/late inning replacement role, BA’s got CF to himself for the first time since early 2006. welcome to the vagaries of small sample sizes, brian.

BA's gonna take his PAs today and do something with them

single, walk, double, rbi groundout…boom….and a stolen base

takes some real stones for the one certifiable cocksucker on here to jump into this convo.-mm

Ozzie said he doesn’t expect to see Wise back and ready to go before June. 10 minutes ago

by larry on Apr 14, 2009 11:04 AM CDT reply actions

so when Owens has to leave again

does he get put back on waivers? And if no one claims him again, can he sign a minor league deal with us again? How will that work?
