KW was rebuilding on the fly this year
Slashed payroll, moved a lot of youngsters into the lineup. Old dudes on the backslope playing out the final year of their contracts. I didn’t expect a whole lot this season, but what’s frustrating is that the rest of the division is just as flawed as the Sox and first place is there for the taking.

I am slowing getting to that point. Its just frustrating watching him hit. I keep telling myself that he will warm up.

would be really easy. And the Sox are totally likely to get good value back.
Come on. This team’s hopes always rested on being the tallest midget. Mediocrity in a year they slashed payroll and introduced several younger players to the lineup shouldn’t be some great suprise.
I’m as frustrated as anyone else, but there isn’t much to be done right now except hope that guys get healthy and the pitching improves.

There are several players that should by useful to other teams. Dye, Liney, East Heat and Bobby will probably all be on the block if the Sox are looking to wave the flag. The Yankees would probably be very interested in bullpen help, salary be damned.

I often wonder when would be the right time to trade Bobby while he is still considered the premier closer. I mean you have guys like Hoffman that are good closers for forever, but can Bobby be that type of guy? A guy at work says a caller to Ronge (?) asked why the Sox didn’t take batting practice before yesterday’s game. His answer was that, tradtionally, most teams don’t take outdoor BP on Sundays. No further reason was given.

Well, to be fair, this film was made ten years ago. And it's the only film the Coens made in B&W. The way they did it (emphasizing lighting and cinematography) is far more beautiful and interesting to me than had they done it in color.
The smoke rising off a cigarette is not as lovely when in color, for example.

Also. This reminds me of a funny story from when I saw this in the theatre in '99.
Being a 15 year-old film snob (already an AV dweeb in high school, en route to film school for college), I went to see this latest piece of Coens excellence with my equally-dorky best friend, Mike (Sox fanatic some of you will meet on the 22nd).
We were making fun of the general American audience by whining on our way there: “Whhaaa? This film is in black and white?” – playing on the idea that most viewers would be completely oblivious/unappreciative to the cinematography/process that went into creating the film.
As the film started in the theatre, one of the people sitting behind us whispered to his buddy, “This film is in black and white????”

I have come to accept that this is a rebuilding year
and that your 2010 Sox will look a lot different than this 2009 “transition” team.
Thank goodness for parity (and a healthy dose of suckishness) in the AL Central. If the Sox can warm up the bats a bit and figure out what to do as far as a 5th starter is concerned, they have just as good a chance as the rest of the division.
With all the injuries, benchings and shake-ups, I really don’t think this team has had a fair chance to gel as of yet. But when you have Scottie Pods starting for you, a DH hitting around .200 and a “slugging” team that is quite often shut out, I guess it’s fair to say this team has “issues.”
Only time, talent and Kenny’s “vision” will tell.

Carl informed me that he was ready to start the PH9 season and posted his first one (as we’ve seen)….and since then, life has thrown him some tough times….
He has understandably chosen to prioritize his life, and the comic he once sacrificed sleep to create, is sadly on the back burner.
PH9 will likely be a weekly installment of Smells Like Mascot, which he intends to center around Sox during the season. But overall, the rollercoaster/train ride will not continue as PH9, as we know it.

the sox have given up 3 runs or less in about 50% of games. that seems ok to me…

As you see, in over 50% of the games, opponents score 3 runs or less
Also, including games started by Contreras boosts the percentage of games with 9 or 10+ runs scored by opponents.
Hooray for my first worthwhile contribution to SSS, if it can be considered worthwhile. I can’t wait for it to be buried by one of larry’s fanshots!

really wasn't being serious
but this chart does make me feel better about the overall pitching performance than looking and seeing that they’re ranked 17th in MLB in ERA.
considering that they’ve given up 8+ runs in 25% of games, ERA is a statistic that will be skewed to the right. However, I’m not sure how often those 9th and 10th runs are because I can’t imagine that you win a significant higher % of games where you give up 8 runs compared to 9, 10, and so on. (what i’m trying to say is 8 runs probably equals a loss as much as 10 runs).
this really does give a more accurate depection of how the sox are pitching.
