Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Ozzie spend most of his career in the nine hole?

And I seem to recall Uribe spending a great deal of time batting out of that spot as well. Maybe in Ozzie’s brain six on the field = nine in the order.

I don't like Fields in the two hole

Earlier in the year I thought it was a great idea…but Fields k’s too much and sucks right now. I’d like to see AJ moved back up – as much as it hurts me to say it.

"Jenks, who was never afraid to say "no" to a hamburger..."

by BobbySouthSide on May 19, 2009 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Heard John Dewan today with Murph on The Score.

Fields is already a minus 8 in his plus/minus system, by far the biggest culprit on a defense that is #12 in the AL. For comparisons sake, Crede is a plus seven. No, I don’t want Crede and was fully supportive of having Fields full-time. But, he’s killing us every way you can think of. We’ve got to move him down, and either bring up Beckham or use Nix primarily at third. That said, I’m starting to wonder if Getz isn’t killing us just as badly, but they didn’t talk about his defensive rating. We can’t wait much longer if we have any realistic hope of salvaging this season. That is, if you think it’s worth salvaging.

by dantesox on May 19, 2009 2:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Its still too early to be giving up on the season.

And yes that would mean doing something about Fields right now. He continues to get worse as the season moves along.

Delgado might make it back before the end of the year

Wouldn’t the Mets rather make a run at someone who can play first now and have value at other positions late in the season? Olney mentions a player like Derosa or hell even a Swisher type, though I don’t know if the Yankees would part with him. My point is, Konerko and Delgado on the same team would be redundant should he be able to make it back by August or so.

THANK YOU NATE SILVER, TECHNOLOGY IS THE TOPS

by Hazymania on May 19, 2009 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Hazy, I agree. I was just assuming that Delgado would be out longer than the 10-12 weeks.

I’m getting tired of watching the Sox loose, and I’m getting close to the point of really wanting to rebuild. I guess give it another 4-6 weeks to see where we stand.

You know what, BoeJouma?

I like you. You’re not like the other people here in the trailer park. Oh no, don’t get me wrong, they’re fine people, good Americans. But they’re content to sit back, maybe watch a little Mork and Mindy on channel 57. Maybe kick back a cool Coors 16-ouncer. They’re good fine people, BoeJouma. But they don’t know what the queers are doing to the soil.

Now, BoeJouma, if you look at the soil around any large U.S. city with a big underground homosexual population – Des Moines, Iowa, perfect example. Look at the soil around Des Moines, BoeJouma. You can’t build on it, you can’t grow anything in it. The government says it’s due to poor farming. But I know what’s really going on, BoeJouma. I know it’s the queers. They’re in it with the aliens. They’re building landing strips for gay Martians. I swear to God.

Ozzie on Lilli: Speed, not Power
“He’s got to work on a lot of things,” Ozzie said. "If this kid keeps swinging the bat like that, he’s going to be in Triple-A for a long time. We need him; we want him. That’s the reason we made this trade (with the Braves) _ we liked him for the past two years. But when you continue to try and play a big man’s game when you’re only 5-11, 120 pounds, that’s not a game you should be playing.

“We talked to him clearly three times, the message was there. You’ve got to use your legs, play baseball, and when you have warning-rack power, you’re going to go from the minor leagues to the Mexican League to the Korean League.

“In the big leagues, he’s got a tough road to come back here. He’s not doing what he’s supposed to do. I’m just being honest. He’s got the message three times and he’s got to change his ballgame.”

'The Unnoticed Lefty' by Eric Seidman
Usually when I begin my posts with discussions centering on those with very solid controllable skillsets and the consistent durability to log 200+ frames each season, the topic of interets is Javier Vazquez. Not this time. No, instead of Vazquez, I want to give some props to another pitcher who might not fit this bill in the same exact manner but who has put together a pretty great career that gets overlooked far too often. That pitcher happens to be South Side southpaw Mark Buehrle, who just recently turned 30 years old, much younger than most realize. …
