Kitty Puts Fantasy Camp on His Broad Shoulders
Just heard from our favorite 1983 ROY, Ron Kittle, yesterday. We fantasy campers had received disappointing news earlier this month - seems the Sox' move to Glendale meant adios for the camp in Tucson. The Sox are unwilling to support that venue (as you might imagine), and much angst was felt as we campers saw the demise of our Sox alumni frivolity.
But into the breach stepped our favorite Gary, IN hero, Kitty, to act as intermediary between we campers and the team. Seems there is new life in fantasy world, and there may be life in 2010 for those of us/you who want to pay to hang out/drink/play ball with the likes of Kitty, Wimpy, Dot, JB, Hermy, Bainsey, D-Bo, Grebey, Carlos, Chief, and the Mayor (Beltin' Bill).
Not that any of you kids out there are interested, but if anyone (and it's usually the over-40 crowd) are interested let me know. I would've skipped this year anyway if there had been a camp but 2010 looks interesting.
God Bless Ronnie. Old people with disposable income and a sad attachment to their youth are breathing a hopeful sigh of relief on the South Side tonight.

i'm thinking about going.
i feel your camp did not have the requisite white sox element of small, scrappy, shitty leadoff hitter.

I think a return to the field from a local hero seems necessary.

It was $3300, all in except air fare.
And will surely rise. It had been the cheapest camp of all MLB fantasy camps.
We’re a pack of a-holes.

Source???
I’m not sure that your assessment of the current “state of the fantasy camp” in entirely accurate. What is the source of this information, because I’ve heard something completely different. In fact, almost completely the opposite, sad to say. :-(

Sox set Fantasy Camp dates
The Chicago White Sox will host their first Sox Fantasy Camp at their new Camelback Ranch facility in 2010.
The baseball complex is situated on 141 acres in Glendale, Ariz., about 15 miles west of downtown Phoenix, and boasts the largest ballpark in the Cactus League.
The White Sox Fantasy Camp will take place from Jan. 10-17. Anyone 21 years of age or older can participate.
Each camp participant receives a personalized and authentic White Sox uniform, as well as other camp gifts.
Participants will receive instruction from former White Sox greats, directed by former American League home run champion and Sox legend Bill Melton. They also will play in daily games and have the opportunity to participate in a “Hot Stove” question-and-answer session with White Sox broadcasters and front office executives.
“Hosting a fantasy camp at the Camelback Ranch will certainly be an unbelievable baseball experience for all campers,” said Melton, who has helped manage similar fantasy camps for the past 15 years.
Lodging will be provided at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa. Shuttle service to and from the complex will be provided, as well as breakfast and lunch every day. There also will be opening, midweek and closing banquet dinners for all participants.
The cost for the seven-day Fantasy Camp is $4,195, which does not include transportation to and from Glendale, Arizona.

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
