Good for him
looks like we might see him in a sox uniform before the end of the season according to this promotion.
Charlotte gets exponetially better
the Barons run was nice while it lasted, cant wait to see Beckham!
we need only one of these larry
Colon, who after pitching 5 scoreless innings, had to leave the game with an upset stomach.
why go to Charlotte and not stay at Birmingham and come directly to Chicago?
is the competition there any better?
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
well, AAA is higher than AA. one could say that implies something about the competition.

I think 'implies' is not the same as 'is'
believe it or not I can see that there is is one more A in AAA from AA

yes. i'm careful with my word choice. and you picked up on what was implied in that choice.
as i’ve stated on here before, top hitting prospects often do not need time in AAA. promoting a player in this regard is PR for the fans or signal to players that someone is knocking on the door. do you really care whether he’s in charlotte or birmingham if he’s going to be in the minors either way?

if the level of play was the same or higher in AAA I would be ok

i think one would be pretty hard-pressed to make the argument that the level of competition in AAA is lower than in AA.
i mean, really.

As I recall, the elite players often go straight to the majors
From AA. That unless blocked by position, there’s no reason for the AAA season. This move MAY be for any number of reasons, not limited to:
1. It won’t hurt him.
2. There’s no need for him to be here yet.
3. He’s only regarded as semi-elite, hence the quick promotion to “test” him because they aren’t sure.
4. A way to boost Charlottes fortunes.
5. And all that goes out the window if he plays 3rd there. That would indicate some serious concerns here about Josh.
That said, it’s opinion only and I’m not arguing/defending this post. Dinner awaits.

6. Play with your future pitcher Jack Egbert

I said player, not pitcher.

I get it now. Never mind.

if you want to read the tea leaves,
it allows gordon to play some other position than SS (namely 3B) without stunting the progress of another prospect (viciedo).
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
it's 4 and 5
give Charlotte a marketable player for a few weeks and allow beckham the opportunity to play 3B without moving Viciedo off the position

isnt Birmingham pretty hitter friendly?
and Charlotte not so much?

i'd say there are some better pitchers out there. or at least were.
overall, difficult to say.
the basic difference for a hitter in AAA is that you’re going to be facing guys who have been in the majors or are likely to be very soon. maybe that’s not a real difference. some say pitchers have better stuff in AA but that AAA pitchers make less mistakes (i’d call that a purely anecdotal observation).

Seriously though...
The Peavy almost-trade told us Kenny was serious about going for it, a last hurrah with his geriatrics. This move tells us the same thing: that if Josh can’t do the job, Kenny won’t hesitate to try something different. How could Beckham do any worse? Even if he does no better, it’s not a bad move for the future either.
Josh has been put on notice.

I have mentioned that several times myself
anyone for the sox bringing in Ventura? He could train Beckham…
Colon, who after pitching 5 scoreless innings, had to leave the game with an upset stomach.
particularly given what will be a seriously nagging injury to Q!
Fields will still get his opportunities if he can pull out of his funk in Charlotte. and at least he drove the ball a bit yesterday.

Just saw this...
I will get up to Charlotte soon in the next couple weeks and try to get some pics and a detailed look at our Savior.
"God knows I gave my best in baseball at all times and no man on earth can truthfully judge me otherwise."
I remember that Beckham played a little 3B in the Arizona Fall League.
I didn’t keep up with the AFL, how did he end up doing at 3B?
hawk just said he believes that Beckham is playing 3rd base at Charlotte
take what you want from that, dont see it anywhere else yet
Colon, who after pitching 5 scoreless innings, had to leave the game with an upset stomach.
Fields has no fear of Beckham … yet
If the news was supposed to make Fields flinch, however, it didn’t.
"We don’t have any control over it,’’ Fields said. "It happens with any player drafted in the first round, there is some kind of hype that comes out with it. I remember before I even played pro ball, Joe Crede was struggling at the time and the talk was when was I going to be ready to be up? It’s just a part of the game and you deal with it. You try and control what’s going on with yourself. I feel good about where I am and getting out of that little slump I was in. That’s all you can do.’’
