Wes Whisler: This guy just doesn’t strike enough people out. While his ERA is often very nice – 3.81 last year and 2.12 so far this year – his peripherals scream "not a major leaguer." He’s averaged about 4.5 K/9 in the upper minors and that simply won’t do. While he does perform better against lefties, he hasn’t shut them down like a Gobble can. Also has little experience pitching in relief.

Purging our failing 1st round picks?
Why stop there…albeit we’d be selling low on Fields and McCullough.

Castro career numbers:
28% CS
vs. LHP: .256/.330/.426
vs. RHP: .231/.306/.415
It looks like he’s better than AJ right now. Not that AJ’s going anywhere. Still, probably the best backup catcher we’ve had since Jim’s been writing about it.

Hey guys, Mets fan here.
Y’all got the better end of this trade by far. Castro is a good offensive catcher (when healthy), can PH well, is at least competent behind the plate, and honestly was our best catcher. Fucking Omir Santos gets a couple clutch hits, and suddenly we trade our best catcher. Sweet. Anyone have any information on Broadway? He was a pretty good prospect a few years ago, right?

Broadway sucks.
He can’t break 90 regularly and never will. He aspires to be Brian Bannister.

Every time he is warming up in the bullpen, you'll cringe....unless you have a 10-run lead.
That’s been my experience, at least.
However, the opportunity for google images is rich with him.
Cheers!

I've been waiting years for this deal.
Ramon Castro is the natural compliment for AJ Pierzynski, and if things go well, a natural backup for Tyler Flowers. He is easily the best backup catcher the Sox have had this century. The only cause for concern is whether or not he can stay healthy, but getting him for Lance Broadway is a move I love.
by asinwreck on May 30, 2009 11:30 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
castro is too old and too poor defensively to be a complement to flowers.
the sox will need a guy who plays good defense to back-up flowers and is durable. a back-up to flowers should play in quite a few games, if only because flowers should be pulled in the 7th/8th or later in any game in which the sox have a close lead.

So who would you choose as a backup fitting your description?
Then narrow iby adding “who is available at a reasonable price?”. Sounds like you’d like T-Flow to actually come in and transition slowly. (As in, a guy who really should be able to be a #1 catcher should compliment Flowers.) I can’t think of anyone off the top of my head.

no. flowers should be the starting catcher when he arrives.
and i’m not going to think about it right now because it’s not something which requires thinking until 1.5 years from now or so.

sorry if that came of as harsh, but learn to hang with it. we are a bunch of assholes, that’s part of this site. but if you’re going to act like an idiot and a child you will be treated as such. if you say something dumb, it’s best to just drop it and move on because if you try to fight it on here it’s just going to end badly for you.

To assail the one who defended you (and attempted, in a small way, to protect you)
is counterproductive. If you want to hang with the 8th best MLB blogging site you have to grow up, or allow ourself to be embraced as a mascot. No whining allowed. You sound like my 6 year-old daughter. Grow some hair.
