Jose Contreras Will Make Next Start
The White Sox kept their rotation intact so that Mark Buehrle will pitch Thursday night agianst Detroit and Jose Contreras will open the Texas series on Friday night.
"We talked about [skipping Contreras]," manager Ozzie Guillen said after Wednesday night's game was called nearly 90 minutes after the scheudled start. "We thought about it. We're going to show him another vote of confidence that we believe in him and he can still do it. Hopeuflly he'll notice that. I hope he takes advantage of the sitaution.
"I don't want to start moving people around and people miss turns, and all of a sudden have too many days off, too many breaks. Everyone should be the same way, and we'll see what happens."

Hey Cheat (or anyone who watches a lot of games), in a recent article, you mentioned how you've come to like Nix's approach at the plate
I’m wondering what you think of BA’s approach thus far this season. What does it look like he’s changed in order to be come a passable major leaguer (before he went on the DL)?

it could be exactly what theyre doing
they need him to keep pitching badly so it becomes easier to pull him from the rotation. skipping him would just prolong the inevitable

He claimed he used a performance enhancer previously, he got caught using one now. It doesn’t matter when he got caught. He claimed he did something previously, that he got caught doing now, doesn’t seem like a big leap of faith to believe he’s used previously and didn’t just start now.

Don't know if this is relevant, but Manny says:
Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now.
"I do want to say one other thing; I’ve taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. I want to apologize to [Dodgers owner Frank] McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, [manager Joe] Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I’m sorry about this whole situation."
(So maybe the second paragraph indicates he didn’t pass the ’03 test?)

The days of wondering will he or won’t he make the hall of fame are long gone at least. DH or not, shouldn’t be an issue the way these other guys have dropped like flies around him.
It’s a shame he didn’t get to play on an even playing field, assuming he was clean as his reputation and stance against the PED’s would make you think. Would have been interesting to see just how good his numbers would look.

I can’t believe one of the most iconic figures in MLB has been treated so shabbily. A small fine or even better a donation to Ramirez’ charity of choice would have been more than appropriate for such a minor indiscretion.

Latest update from Will Carroll on BP Unfiltered:
“UPDATE 3: Ramirez’s statement issued through the MLBPA indicates that Ramirez will not appeal his suspension and that he received the banned substance from a doctor. Ramirez was suspended under section 8.G.2 of the Joint Drug Agreement, which is "other." In his statement, there’s no clear statement that Ramirez ever tested positive. Combined, those two facts point to a non-testable drug, but this is not confirmed. The only other known 8.G.2 suspension was Jordan Schaefer.”

manny's just release statement
"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a
medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me.
Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the
policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say
anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I’ve taken and
passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons.
"I want to apologize to Mr. McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, Mr. Torre, my teammates,
the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me
and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I’m sorry about this whole

Source: Ramirez’s substance a sexual enhancer
LOS ANGELES – A source close to Manny Ramirez(notes) said Thursday that the illegal substance for which the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger tested positive was not "an agent customarily used for performance enhancing."
At least not on the baseball diamond. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance is supposed to boost sex drive. It is not Viagra, but a substance that treats the cause rather providing a temporary boost in sexual performance, the source said.
Ramirez tested positive for the substance during spring training, then was administered a second test more recently, and it also was positive. Major League Baseball notified Ramirez of the second positive test after Wednesday night’s Dodgers victory over the Washington Nationals. Ramirez admitted to having taken the substance and declined to appeal. His 50-game suspension begins today.
"The substance is not a steroid and it is not human-growth hormone," the source said.
Ramirez, the source said, acquired the substance through a prescription from a doctor in Miami for his medical condition. The source intimated that Ramirez might bring legal action against the physician.

Was certainly proposed last fall:
Players’ chiefs have served notice that they will fight plans for the Premier League’s top stars to be tested for drug use in their own homes.
The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) claim the plan would be “an invasion of privacy”.
Under the World Anti-Doping Association’s (WADA) new code, a pool of 30 elite players will be forced to undergo up to five tests a year – not including those carried out after matches.
The move is to bring sportsmen such as footballers into line with Olympic athletes, who must provide details on their location for an hour each day, including holidays. PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said the players’ union opposed some of the new regulations.
Taylor said: "We feel that to invade the privacy of a player’s home would be a step too far. If we complain about anything to do with drug-testing then people think we might have something to hide, but football’s record is extremely good and there has been a virtual absence of any performance-enhancing drugs, and that goes back decades.
An FA spokesman said: “The introduction of a national testing pool in each country is a requirement of the WADA code, but there are still discussions to be had between the FA and UK Sport on the size, composition and testing requirements for English football’s pool.”
The FA’s drug-testing programme is the biggest in British sport, with 1,600 tests conducted every season.
Andy Parkinson, UK Sport’s head of operations for a drug-free sport, insisted the new rules were not aimed at making life difficult for footballers but trying to “protect their sport”.
“Players have licence to take anything they want in the summer as they disappear off our radar,” he said.
Anti-drug testers currently pick two players at random for a urine sample after every match. Among those punished for drug offences in the past have been former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Bosnich, sacked by the club and awarded a nine-month ban in 2003 after testing positive for cocaine.
Another Chelsea player, Adrian Mutu, was also suspended by the FA for seven months in 2004 after failing a drugs test.
The FA confirmed they will still be able to ban players for cocaine use in the future, even if the test is out of competition.
The FA spokesman added: "Under the WADA prohibited list, cocaine is only prohibited in competition. However, the FA’s social drugs programme, also supported by UK Sport, goes beyond the WADA code in also prohibiting players from taking social drugs out of competition.
“This is borne out of a belief that footballers should be drug-free at all times. “Under our doping control regulations, a positive out-of-competition test for a social drug such as cocaine can, and does, result in a ban of up to six months for a first offence.”

For certain.
Your statement works on so many levels. Just the tone of the article is fucked up, painting the story as something other than drug addiction, and then the content where people are self prescribing “stacks” and generally acting as if this stuff is no big deal.
For a bit of background, those stacker 2 pills that many people were popping a few years back were a great combination of two stimulants, one of which has serious health effects when taken by someone whose body is under stress, and a pain killer to dull your senses should you begin to feel any ill effects for the nasty stimulant combination.
“Stacking” drugs is fucking retarded because, unless you’re a pharmacist or an excellent physician, you more than likely have no idea what the fuck you are doing. Kiddies take note.
