Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

Josh Fields on his meeting with Kenny Williams: "We had a very good meeting. It was very blunt and straightforward. It's all you can ask for from a general manager.

"Almost more blunt than I wanted him to be. I appreciate him sitting down and letting me know where I stand."

"I thought some [of Williams' explanation] was fair, and I saw a lot of his points," Fields said. "Some of it, I would like to say I disagree, but obviously, if you have questions, you might not agree with what's going on. Like I said, he's doing what's best for the team to win.

"He respects where I'm coming from, and I respect what he had to say. He was straightforward to the point where it might have hurt a little bit. But that's how it is. That's how the game is."

not sure why it's mealymouthed.

but he certainly just needs to stop talking about this and play.

Remember Bouton in "Ball Four",

when he talked about in Little League, if you couldn’t play, you did the “infield chatter”?

Josh is still in Little League, in his head.

We’re a pack of a-holes.

he's trying to bitch his way out of town, it seems.

He’s never seemed like the type to excel when the pressure’s on, and he can’t handle the scrutiny.

This is a tough crowd...I've read of players saying much worse

His GM told him sucked, he basically says he didn’t like it and disagreed (which is where delusion sets in) but respects the GM. It’s not that damning.

He does need to shutup and spout cliches when asked about this, but his play is what I dislike far more than his mouth.

yeah, i'd characterize it as the exact opposite of mealymouthed.

shut up. no one cares about your feelings so don’t tell us about them. needs more “go out there and give it 110%” and “let the chips fall where they may” and “the manager makes the lineup.”

Weren't you the one

making an argument in spring that because he was a QB in college therefore = smart / adaptable? So much for that theory. This hypothesis must only work for punters.

Coach says he needs more toughness. I gotta step up.

Give it time

As Sox fans, we have been used to rocks at 3B. Fields is no defensive plyaer by any means. His bat needs to wake up. I don’t care if him, or any player, questions management, because I am sure we all do it at our jobs every day. Fields batting average has steadily climbed since they called up Beckham, and he needs to be pushed to be a success. He didn;t say he wants out of town. I think Fields will be a decent 3B, I would like to see him do better defensivley, because in turn it helps out your pitching staff in the end.

Josh needs to be running his mouth to only one person right now. Jesus.

That’s right, Josh. Jesus is your friend.
Why don’t you give him a call and see if he wants to hang out.

Just [expletive] Fuck It.

Finaly, a sensible comment from you.

All I have to say is that it’s about goddam time you woke up and realized the power of the Lord ;)

Jeez. The responses here to what is basically a non-story is why the reporters

keep giving us this shit.

The City of Chicago, led by Mayor Daley and a vast and tumorous army of aldermen and bagmen and yesmen and opportunists and spineless, parasitic political-machine halfwits of forms never seen outside the roiling cesspool of governmental slop-trough greed, has proven itself unworthy of something as potentially delicious and fulfilling as the 2016 Olympic Games.
