Jose Contreras Earns His Way Back Into ChiSox Rotation
I don't know if I'll ever fully trust Contreras again, but he proved he's worthy of a spot in the rotation with another 8 innings of scoreless ball.

well, i thought contreras was more lucky than good in his last start,
but this acquitted him in my book. granted he was spotted a nice lead today, but he was very good. lots of strikeouts. only 2 walks (both in the 8th). was hitting 93 while over 100 pitches. you gotta love it. finally, a game to take some real positives from.

re the headline.
Agreed, as long as he starts against NL teams. NLC specifically.
And not having looked , was the gamethread at least semi positive for a change?
The City of Chicago, led by Mayor Daley and a vast and tumorous army of aldermen and bagmen and yesmen and opportunists and spineless, parasitic political-machine halfwits of forms never seen outside the roiling cesspool of governmental slop-trough greed, has proven itself unworthy of something as potentially delicious and fulfilling as the 2016 Olympic Games.

ozzie on beckham's ABs
“I’m not going to say they’re great at-bats, but he fights for his at-bats,” Guillen said. "I was a little aggravated [in one game when he swung at the first pitch] in four at-bats. I don’t think that’s the right approach.
“But I think [hitting coach] Greg Walker talked to him and said ‘You have to get a better approach at the plate, see more pitches’ and see how he handles it. In the field, he has played pretty well. Hopefully his bat comes along.”

poreda
Poreda said he had extra motivation before he struck out slugger and fellow Jewish player Ryan Braun.
“I actually thought about that when he was coming up, the battle of the Jews,” Poreda laughed. “But he’s a great player, amazing, and I was just trying to do my best.”

If going to the minors worked for Contreras
then maybe Liney needs to do the same, (though he would probably be claimed)
seriously, has he lost it? the last few times I’ve seen him he was terrible.

go cubs go
Who was most surprised by the Chicago Cubs drafting former UM linebacker Glenn Cook in today’s Major League Baseball Draft?
Cook himself.
That’s because Cook hadn’t picked up a bat or ball in over six years before he was told about a Cubs tryout just two days before the tryout was held.
Cook found out about the tryout from a Chicago scout who used to watch him in high school.
interesting story.

as mentioned before, contreras is a guy i'd take to war with me any day.
when he has his head on straight, and is in decent health, the man is a total monster on the mound.
personally, i think he is one of those “what could have been” pitchers.
give him a full career in the majors, no outside distractions, and good luck health-wise and, well, what could have been?

paulie's shots
Returning from a right thumb injury that sidelined him a few days and required a second shot in the last three months, Paul Konerko went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the 7-1 victory Saturday over the Brewers.
But how long will the thumb hold up this time?
Konerko said his wish would be to get the injection once a week, but it can only be given every two months, at the most.
So does the responsibility of keeping Konerko healthy fall on manager Ozzie Guillen?
’’We’ve talked about this issue for a long time and how we’re going to handle it,‘’ Guillen said. ’’No matter how you handle it, the pain isn’t going away. It’s going to go away with the shot he took. Even with a good swing, it’s going to sting a little bit. It’s something he’s going to have to tolerate.
‘’We go for it, but I go by what he tells me. I’m not going to ask him every day because I did it a few times, and I was annoying him. He’s got to let me know what he can and cannot do. P.K. and I have a good relationship about that, telling me if he can play or not.’’
