Mark Buehrle is throwing fewer strikes than ever before
Mark Buehrle follows the trend set above of pitchers missing the zone at career high rates this season. It builds off his 2008 season which was his previous career low in strikes thrown. Buehrle has gone from 52.5% to 49.7% and now to 46.4% over the last three seasons. That is a cause for concern.

Isn't that just him being a better/smarter pitcher?
overall swing rates have been pretty solid, and contact rates only vary a little. Isn’t it a good thing that he’s able to do that by keeping the ball on the corners?
Please explain if I’m way off.
that's what i see too.
if his command falters, he’s done…but he’s almost right at his career rate. his hr/fb is a little high, too.
THIS STORY ONLY ENDS ONE WAY
that was my reaction as well.
it would seem to make sense that the strike rate only becomes cause for concern when the results begin to falter. though prolonged decline in strike rate is probably dangerous, it’s actually probably in any pitcher’s best interest to expand the strike zone as much as hitters will allow.

It'd be interesting to see a comp
of Greg Maddux’ stats later in his career. That’s right, Buehrls = Maddux. HOF-bound.

he is not hall of fame bound.. have you gone mad?
statue on the concourse bound is a bit of a stretch too. still have to line up frank, robin, konerko (i suppose), maybe even magglio before Buehrle gets that. Check in the year 2035

what i don't understand is
how is buehrle lucky if he pitches in a hitters park and generally has below average defense behind him.
brian anderson would've caught that...
He has a job.
