Thomas coming back to south side?
So the Daily Herald reports in an article today that the White Sox may be reaching out to Frank Thomas about a possible last hurrah with our favorite baseball team. According to the article Thomas has been working out and looking to play for a major leauge team.
Frank Thomas, despite his attitude and occasional quirkiness, is one the best players in to wear a White Sox uniform. His contributions to this team must never be forgotten. Tthe face of the franchise for the 90's and he even contributed to the championship season with the amount of home runs he hit. (Let's face it, with the exception of Marte and Visciano, everyone did) Although he went down with the injury, he launched the ball many times. Number 35 is sure to be retired in the next couple years, and this is what's right.
On the other hand, if the Big Hurt comes back here, what the hell do you do with him? I don't think he can play 1B, even in a bench capacity. However, I don't think he's humble enough to play on the bench. There are no spots left. It would be nice to have another big bat in the lineup for now considering we don't know how much longer Q will be done, but what can you do?
I think the comment Ozzie said does sum up this whole situation quite nicely
"If we try to do something for him, he might get offended, like, 'I'm not ready to quit, I still want to play.' That's why the White Sox have to be careful about what they want to do, what they say, and let Frank make the first decision."
But can he truly be used, and do we need our baseline clogged with another big bat who can't run while we are in the middle of a dog fight for the Central.
What do you guys think? Would you welcome Big Frank 35 back and if yes, what do you do with him?

hahaha
i’d love big frank back only so that he can smack kong upside the head…
i can’t think of a valid reason to have him on this team, unless thome goes down, but there has to be better DH options that are just as cheap…
and i’m not sure what advantage kdub in giving this fluff to the press, perhaps to distract them from the real business that’s going on…

I took the "If he wanted to retire..." line
as implying it would be a Minnie Minoso, sign a contract and file his retirement papers with the league type deal.
Yes. As a statue.

uh huh
I think it's funny to picture them as completely different characters. One is Big and one is Hairy. But neither are both.

No
I loved Big Frank, he was always my favorite player as a kid (though I’ve heard he can be an asshole).
But, we have way to many potential DHs (Q!, Konerko, Dye, maybe Thome if he wants to take a paycut and stay on another year) to nessicitate this.
"a methead"
i think it's just one of those sign-to-retire deals

yeah, a Jerry Rice with SF kind of situation
Frank is the best player in the history of the franchise.
I deleted it because of the misspselling. -the Cheat
Let him get in shape for a few weeks in the minors
and then be on the team in September. what’s the harm?
Come back in September so we can give you
the send off you deserve
Colon, who after pitching 5 scoreless innings, had to leave the game with an upset stomach.
How can we miss him if he won't go away?
Or as Kenny told him: “Frank, get your tongue out of my mouth… I’m kissing you goodbye”.

We don't need him at this time.
But I’m cool with the “Aloha Frank” thing in September.
Ridin' high in April, shot down in May.
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
when I'm back on top ,back on top in June...
Me too. We can call him The Big (Grass) Skirt!

Come on.... I LOVE IT!
Bring back the Big Hurt if he is willing to be a pinch hitter/part timer! Even if he does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING it frees us of the disaster that is Wilson Betemit.

There you go.... prime example
if Thomas is on the team Ozzie doesn’t feel the need to play that cocksucking Betemit and the error at third isn’t made and it is a 2-0 game instead of 5-0.

Yeah....f*ck errors

I'll always love Frank Thomas.
When I see him playing on another team, I’m rooting for him. Hell, when he first came back to Comiskey and hit two that night, who wasn’t cheering?
That being said, however, I don’t see how the Big Hurt could fit on this club. He’d only be useful as a back up to Thome, but if a DH needs a back-up then you know something is wrong. Save for Thome’s back going out and he goes on the DL for an extended period of time, Thomas doesn’t belong.

If Thome's back goes out I'd rather see Fields DH against righties.

His numbers are as good as Fields.
That’s the sad thing.

also, the related posts section reminds us that we missed his birthday.
May 27. Happy 41st, ya OPOS.
Put him at third.
His hands, range, and arm are superior to Wilson Betemit’s.
Seriously, even if it’s a Minoso-style cameo in September, I will be happy to see Frank close his career out in a White Sox uniform.
could have used him to pinch hit in today's (sundays game)
Ozzie probably would have opted for dwayne wise instead though. Just like Nix over Thome, Castro over AJ….

Not going to happen
The Big Hurt isn’t going to be coming back. He was a great one.
