The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

indians fire sale begins
Mark DeRosa is back in the NL Central! #cardinals just acquired him from CLE for RHP Chris Perez and player to be named later.

perez is a former top prospect

(ranked about 65-75 overall before losing eligibility). thought of as the closer of the future for the cards. very nice arm. the now usual fastball-slider combo of power righty closers. has some control issues but this is a pretty nice haul (again) for a player the indians needed to dump. too bad none of these trades ever seem to get the indians anywhere, huh.

the real question you have to ask though is

will derosa continue to get standing ovations at wrigley?

FifthFeather.com

by El Duque's Raft on Jun 27, 2009 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

gotta give something to get something

they have him for three months. The Cards had to buy out a month of offer-fielding from Shapiro, and they got an offensive upgrade.

by Daniel Berlyn on Jun 27, 2009 10:34 PM CDT up reply actions

fun with off the cuff math.

so the indians get a player who is under team control for i believe five more years and is likely to produce, let’s say, a win a year. de rosa may be worth 1-2 wins this year and the cards may get B compensation when he leaves after this year. and the cards get to pay his salary. flags fly forever. they better get a flag.

by larry on Jun 27, 2009 10:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, obviously the Cardinals feel

that they need a position player now more than they need a potential closer the next few years. They are desperate for offense and any trade giving them the best chance to make the playoffs in the tallest midget NL Central is a good one. I’d take this trade over last year’s Griffey deal any day.

by Daniel Berlyn on Jun 27, 2009 10:47 PM CDT up reply actions

let me know how the math works on that one.

ok....

I was thrilled with Beckham’s hit. Fucking wonderful. However, my final analysis of this game is that both teams are bad. Sox should have won this game 7-3 (left side of infield problems and balk)….. and the Cubs couldn’t win the game when the Sox basically gave it to them. Still a thrill to see Gordon make up for his play at 3rd.

black jack thinks gordon should re-ascend to SS.
Okay, here’s the deal, don’t think that I’m just Beckham obsessed but here’s what needs to happen…Gordon Beckham needs to go back to his normal shortstop position, Alexi Ramirez back to second, Josh Fields back to third. After watching Beckham back up more than two steps on three different groundballs over the past two days it’s obvious he’s a long way from being comfortable at third. He is searching for the best hop when third base is more of a reaction position and an in-between hop position. If he’s gonna be up there, put him in the position where he’ll end up.

by thatballhitdeepwayback on Jun 27, 2009 11:41 PM CDT up reply actions

he is a SS

if they would put him back at his position, he would also cut down on the errors, something that Alexei is racking up. it comes down to whether they are still trying to get something out of this season, or if they want to get guys experience for next year. Wait, either way Gordo should be at short

by oneloyaldawg on Jun 28, 2009 1:21 AM CDT up reply actions

Both will have plenty of Es at SS.

Neither has really proven to be good fielders at the position, yet.

by omnipotent grab on Jun 28, 2009 1:46 AM CDT up reply actions

proven to be good fielders yet?

Gordon hasn’t played short in the bigs yet. how could he possibly have proven anything at that position? 3rd and SS are very different positions, one of which Beckham is very good at. I watched him make impossible plays look routine for 3 years at Georgia. Plus, Alexei just doesnt act like he cares. From what i can see on tv, he doesnt put any effort or passion into his fielding, where Beckham is diving for everything he possibly has a chance at. just some observations. and yes, i will admit i am a huge beckham fan so i am biased. Once a Dawg, Always a Dawg

by oneloyaldawg on Jun 28, 2009 2:02 AM CDT up reply actions

because he wasn't playing a very good SS in the minors.

Probably said before

But was this the worst-announced great game ever? I was at a Map Room and they never have the sound on, but I just watched the mlb.com recap and they played Buck’s call of Beckham’s game-winner. A-hole can’t even feign excitement on the fans behalf? Artie’s right about him.
