The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
Why don't he look in the mirror.
The manager is supposed to give the team the best chance to win. He failed miserably in that department today

There is a part of me that wants the Tigers to come in here
and kick our ass.
I don’t like this team right now and I’m fine with shedding payroll for prospects and then going into next season with a developing big league core, additional prospects at AA-AAA, a high draft position in 2010, and money to spend on 2010 Free Agents (yeah, I know sort of a thin crop).
don't be negative

I agree - now if we could just get this team to do that!
Remember when "Cuban Pride" meant something...
AL Central is
one nasty division.
Time to show Greg Walker the door.
Ozzie Guillen tanked this game on purpose
Exhibit 1- Colon obviously didn’t have it and he left him in to give up 4 homers
Exhibit 2- The Sox finally make some noise and instead of getting DJ in the game he goes with Whistler who walks the first two guys he saw leading to 2 more runs
Exhibit 3- Bases loaded down 4… Anderson, Getz and Beckham coming up. You have JIM THOME (he of 550 career home runs and numerous big home runs this year) and AJ Pierzynski (a former all star who has a flair for the dramatic…) and you leave Anderson and Beckham bat and pinch hit for Getz with Jayson Nix??
Ozzie does not want Beckham on the team and he was pissed that the fans got on him for starting Wise isntead of Anderson…so he figured if it is Anderson and Beckham who you want, thats what you’ll get.
He is either the dumbest manager in the world or this was done on purpose. Then he goes on a tirade saying the club is shit… the biggest hunk of shit today was you Ozzie. You might as well used another vacation day today.
Kenwo4life=ratings
regarding exhibit 1 and 2, yes, it was done on purpose.
monday is a doubleheader. bullpen needed to be conserved. and whisler is being sent down to make room for contreras so you don’t have to worry about saving him.

ok i figured someone would say that...
but what about the third one. what possible reason would he have for not putting up Thome or AJ? Don’t give me the “the pitcher was lefty” bullshit one either
And that could fly for exhibit 1… but its not like they used whistler a whole lot anyway… 9 pitches and out. if you were going to send him down they may as well seen how he could get out of it if they were going to let him start the inning anyway

I don't care if he was 1-500 against him.
Don’t be retarded. Thome is a hall of famer. I would take my chances with him over any of the 3 that batted against any pitcher to ever play the game
Kenwo4life=ratings
What if Thome was due up in that spot
would they have pinch hit for him with Anderson, Nix or Beckham? fuck no. And if he would have he should be fired on the spot.
Kenwo4life=ratings
THome is a 67 year old
HOFer, who has a terrible track record against this particular pitcher. putting Thome in is setting him up to fail, something the manager is apparently not supposed to do. You don’t take thome out for one of those guys either, because you don’t PH for your starting DH. These scrubs should be PH for, but not with the bats they had available today in this situation. The non-move is justified, and I liked NIx in there for Getz. Ozzie did fine.

He didn't give the team the best chance to win todays game
I don’t care if Thome is 0-500 with 500 strikeouts against any pitcher….. He is STILL MORE LIKELY TO TIE THE GAME IN THAT SITUATION THAN ANY OF THE PEOPLE OZZIE HAD HIT. He left his best 2 bullets in the chamber and fired 3 duds.
Kenwo4life=ratings
In '07 we were down four runs in the 9th inning against Detroit, bases were juiced.
I think JD (can’t remember) was due to bat and instead Ozzie let Anderson pinch hit. The series was important to save our season and I was really disappointed because we seemed to be making a comeback and Anderson wasn’t good. Needless to say, Anderson blew it and we lost the game. However, after the move we knew BA’s limits and he’s been in the dog house ever since.
Same with Javy last year. Had to test him in a big game situation. Javy blew it and so he’s off the team. Whether or not Kenny admits to this, this is a rebuilding year and it doesn’t do us much good pinch-hitting with a guy who won’t be on the team next year (hoping for a long-shot grand slam) when instead you could use the time to see how the future of this club handles pressure situations.
Honestly, this season is looking more and more like a scratch. Let’s see what the kids can do.

Sunday's Loss
What was demoralizing about Sunday’s game was that the Sox had the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh inning with Anderson and Getz coming up. They BOTH struck out, did not even put the ball in PLAY!
That didn't surprise me and that makes me sad.

A couple of things.(or three or four.)
Was at the entire Cleveland series. Colon needs to be released. This is not an overreaction from yesterday. I’ve been feeling this way for about three weeks now. I liked the signing and low risk….etc…..but he needs to go….now. Secondly, I like Beckham a lot despite the 0-10. We strongly have to consider moving him to short and Alexei to center. I have my reservations about Beckham at short and the move will take a lot of balls, but I think we have to do it. As much as I was also for Anderson getting the bulk of the time in center, I now have given up on him as anything more than a spot starter, 4th/5th outfielder. Neither of those moves cleans up the messes at second or third….and I don’t know what to say about that. I am really, really down on Getz, who I also had hopes for. His complete lack of power and range in the field is starting to hit me between the eyes.
These aren't red button moves, at least not in my mind. At all.
Trust me. These same moves are being seriously considered by the Sox as well.

With Beckham and everything else right now, that’s weak. Let Getz play second in game two and have Beckham at third against Bonderman, since Fields likely has a better chance vs. Galaragga.

though I don’t know whether Bonderman’s is back or not. Either way, Bondo can go 3-1 on Fields and still get it by him even if he’s lost 3-4 MPH. Galaragga loves his slider.

I don’t much care which game, but Beckham should be in both games and Getz and Fields sitting out one of the others.
Because Beckham should play if he's up here and he's a better hitter than both Getz and Fields.

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
read the discussion.
particularly my post at 10:24.
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
why do you want to judge beckham with the record of others?
his splits say that he can hit RHP
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
and gallaraga's splits say he murders righties and can't handle lefties.
i’m intelligent and knowledgeable enough to balance the two splits, consider why galarraga beats up on lefties but can’t handle lefties nearly so well, and figure out that playing more lefties against him is a good idea.
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
you say 'galarraga beats up on righties'
ok, I agree there
but beckham’s splits show he doesn’t have a problem with righties
so, because PK, JD and JF can’t hit galarraga you conclude that beckham can’t hit galarraga even if beckham’s splits show he can hit righties
so, you judge beckham on what others do
and I judge beckham on what he does
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
i'm judging right-handers by what galaragga does.
he’s the other guy that’s rather important in this analysis. and, again, if you’ve read the discussion, the other guy who is also important is getz.
and, additionally, you may wish to consider applying your small sample size argument from above to beckham’s minor league splits since, as i’m sure you’re already aware, that is far, far too small a sample size to judge platoon splits.
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
you are judging beckham by what others do, I judge him by what he does
to make it more clear
you are judging beckham based on what happens when PK faces galarraga
I judge beckham based on his numbers
And I don’t see how 60 games are a sss
even if you don’t agree, we can examine his college splits
vs. LH 0.350 0.487 0.600 vs. RH 0.408 0.514 0.846
http://www.collegesplits.com/draft/beckhgo42-b.html
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
if you don't see, you should read up on platoon splits.
year to year variance is normal. see, e.g., jim thome’s 2008 campaign against lefties. three years is a sufficient sample for me but i like more data than less; two is probably close enough. 60 games is certainly not sufficient. and college splits (and low minors splits, too, not that that is an issue here)…well, worry about the level of competition.
at any rate, do you notice a trend in today’s game regarding who is hitting galarraga? confirmation of my bias, for whatever that is worth.
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
I gave you beckham's numbers that show he's ok against righties
if you have any numbers that show beckham has a problem with righties then post them
at any rate, do you notice a trend in today’s game regarding who is hitting galarraga? confirmation of my bias, for whatever that is worth.
you base your argument on half a game? but you dismiss beckham’s entire minor league career? lol!
like I said, if you have any numbers that show beckham has a problem with righties then post them
otherwise don’t waste my time with your theories
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
and please don't waste my time when you lack a basic understanding of the issues being discussed.
additionally, the whole point of my prior dicussion, which you decided to involve yourself in (i.e., waste your own time), was to illustrate that dante’s point that it was “fucking ridiculous” to start getz over beckham is itself fucking ridiculous. i’m not asserting that i would do the same thing, simply that there is more than ample basis with which to reasonably rest a decision to start getz over beckham.
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
I showed you beckham's splits against RHPs
I’m waiting for numbers to disprove my numbers
I’m not paying attention to anything else, only cold hard numbers
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
I know
if you can’t argue your point, you close your ears
so mature!
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
and i question the intellectual maturity of the person who continually misses the point of discussions.
here’s a big flashing fucking newsflash, wiz – i’m not arguing that “your” point is wrong. i’m arguing that either decision has a reasonable basis since dante was missing that.

intellectual maturity? I wasn't the one that posted a picture of a monkey closing his ears
I didn’t address dante’s argument at all in my posts
I posted because I saw you using the platoon splits argument in order to agree that beckham’s benching was justified/reasonable
and I showed you that beckham’s splits don’t show any weakness to RHPs
if you want to remove RHBs from the lineup, remove fields
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
wiz, you didn't show me anything. i know plenty already about gordon beckham and the rest of the white sox.
and, yes, i would probably dump fields. it’s very nice that you saw me using platoon splits and wanted to talk about it. so maybe you should have stopped right around my post of 1:54 instead of trying to tell me how i’m judging beckham.

wiz, you didn’t show me anything
I see you are using the “the earth is flat” reasoning
no need to say anything else
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
wiz, for future reference,
most of the time i don’t understand what it is you are replying to me about. maybe this is my issue. but, if you’re going to talk to me, you may want to be a little clearer about what it is because i’m missing it most of the time.

so you would play to their weaknesses
rather than to our strengths?
After 5 minutes of trying to help this kid, the hurt would end up using him as a bat.

hey, another guy who doesn't read!
here’s a big flashing fucking newsflash, for you: i was discussing with dante that either decision has a reasonable basis. please read what is being posted before attempting to argue with people about things they already know and agree with.

Damn!
I’m only going this afternoon in hopes of seeing Beckham’s first career hit.

For some reason he looks very relaxed in that position...
kind of like he’s just levitating with his feet up on the arm rest of a couch.
Hell of a play.

Carlos Quentin (20 DXL)
Quentin is eligible to come off the DL on Wednesday, but when last seen he was still in a walking boot. Given that he hasn’t yet been seen running or hitting, that makes his coming off at the minimum unlikely, but that’s not a setback, just a reality. Herm Schneider and his staff have been working to make Quentin’s foot not scream with every step, and that’s going to take some time. Ozzie Guillen is using Scott Podsednik in left in the meantime, but he’s obviously not going to give the team the power it’s missing with Quentin out. Once he’s back, the recurrent nature of plantar fasciitis is going to force Guillen to keep Quentin rested, and with Jim Thome in place in the DH slot, it’ll be without the benefit of turning to DHing Quentin all that often. It’s going to be tricky, and given how he’s recovering I’m not hopeful that this is the last that Quentin has seen of the DL due to this issue. Sources tell me that the weekend is the target date for his return, but we’ll need to see some running and hitting drills by Tuesday for this to happen.

he hasnt been able to stretch because he has been in a boot.
poor SoB. Honestly the stretching took the pain level from an 3 to a 0. Obviously I am a lot tougher than Q!.

He can’t stretch because his foot is in a boot, but his foot is in a boot because he can’t stretch.

I blame Obama. Someone today reminded me we are Obama’s team. So we have that going for us.
