This year we have Beckham at least.
Similar to the original Bulls rebuilding with Hinrich, Curry and Chandler, it gave you a reason to tune in. Otherwise this year would be really brutal.

The City of Chicago, led by Mayor Daley and a vast and tumorous army of aldermen and bagmen and yesmen and opportunists and spineless, parasitic political-machine halfwits of forms never seen outside the roiling cesspool of governmental slop-trough greed, has proven itself unworthy of something as potentially delicious and fulfilling as the 2016 Olympic Games.

Walker works hard and he’s a class act, so don’t expect an outright dismissal. Do expect a change in titles if the offense doesn’t pick up soon, most likely roving hitting instructor.

More fun numbers ...
1. The Sox have the lowest OPS+ in the AL (82). 2nd lowest only to SF in MLB. Our OPS (non-neutralized) generally is 2nd lowest in the AL, 5th lowest in MLB.
2. The Sox have the 2nd lowest team VORP in baseball (6.2). (Somewhat amazingly, Oakland’s is 2.9.) 2nd worst in baseball (Boston is worse, but they have attempted fewer than half as many bunts as us).
3. We have scored the 3rd fewest runs and runs-per-game in the AL, 5th fewest in MLB in both categories.
4. Our pinch-hitters are 1-for-30 with 0 RBI’s. That is the worst in baseball, needless to say.
5. Our bunting success rate is 46% -
6. We are 2nd in baseball in infield fly percentage (pop-ups and line drives to an infielder).
7. We are 2nd to last in baseball in extra-base-hit percentage (extra base hits / plate appearances). We are last in baseball in doubles.
The great thing about this team is that if you play around with the filters on the stat sites, you find that we are not good offensively at … well, anything. Day, night, grass, turf, home, away, runners in scoring position, late and close, bases empty. We have grounded into an above average number of double plays and been hit by pitches fewer times than an average team. We have hit fewer home runs than average and our stolen base percentage is below average.
We are the Leonardo of suck.

Guillen
"Is the clubhouse closed?" Guillen said. “We should open it and let them asking why they’re so horse (bleep).”
After losing for the sixth time in seven games, Guillen was more baffled.
"I wonder why. We give players opportunity. One thing about players. You protect their (rears) for 140 games, and you say one thing about it one day and all of a sudden you’re a bad person. And it’s not an easy spot to be. But my job is to get the best out of them and I’m not getting the best out of them. Then it might be my fault. I might push hard enough. I might not get mad enough. Or I’m m too tough on some guys.
"Somebody has to change because if we don’t do what we’re supposed to do, I’ll take the blame because that’s my job. In the meanwhile, if anyone watched from the first day of the season to right now, I will look myself in the mirror and figure out who’s fault it is. I will do. We’re not doing it. We got excited here and there, after that, it was a boring game. Really, really, really bad baseball game, terrible the way the guys played the game."

Fields bobbled a routine grounder from Cabrera for the team’s third error of the day — the most the White Sox have had in a game this season.
The blunder capped off an afternoon in which the White Sox also were unable to execute in the starting-pitching department and offensively in key situations against Tigers starter Armando Galarraga (3-6), who hadn’t won a game in seven starts.
Lost opportunities on the offensive end highlighted the loss. A.J. Pierzynski grounded out to second to end the first inning with runners on first and third. Konerko then struck out to end the third with runners on first and third.
Fields and Dewayne Wise were then unable to score Chris Getz from third with one out in the fourth. Getz’s unsuccessful bunt attempt with nobody out and Pierzynski on first in the eighth came next, which resulted in a fielder’s choice.
It’s only early June, so White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has done well holding in his emotions with the media during this abysmal recent stretch. But he clearly is losing his patience.
“If this was the 1980s, [none] of these guys would be in the big leagues right now,” Guillen said, “because if you hit .210-.230 and you can’t execute, I don’t think you should be out here. When you can’t bunt, hit-and-run, squeeze and move the guy over, you better hit 40 home runs and drive in 140.”
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
This is getting overblown. The first two situations are not cause for excitement.
Not scoring Getz from third with one out, yes, that is something to be pissed about. Screwing up a bunt attempt is something else I don’t blame Ozzie for getting upset about. But the other two situations are less bitch worthy because AJ and Kong have been hitting relatively well this year.
If you give more context to AJ’s groundout, such as Galarraga’s inability to find the strike zone and AJ hacking, then maybe you can bitch, but AJ is a hacker and you shouldn’t expect much more from him. Also, AJ’s been hitting pretty well this season, IIRC, so I don’t think this is a great point. If Kong struck out on three pitches out of the zone, I wasn’t watching the updates at that time so I don’t know if he did, I can understand being upset, but he’s been one of the most productive hitters to this point, so I don’t understand trying to fault him.
Anyways, that’s my semi-level headed response (brain diarrhea) to a reactionary firestorm that probably cooled down after the Sox won game 2. 20 seconds you’ll never get back. You’ll thank me later! ;)
