So if the Swisher and Vazquez trades aren't made, would the Sox be in 1st?
They still would probably be a bad team, but in the AL Central….

Pages on Satchel
Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legendhits bookstores Tuesday. I’ve read the first chapter and look forward to reading the rest. Author Larry Tye inserts us into the early life of Satchel Paige, showing how he was victimized by his race and how Paige refused act like a victim. He reviews the mystery of his birth date and how he came by the nickname Satchel. The most interesting part to me, however, was the story of how Satchel stay in reform school actually reformed him. He was sent to a school that didn’t turn the students into prison, but taught them how to work and how to be self-reliant, traits that helped make Satchel a legend.

A White Sox source confirmed that Garcia was signed to a Minor League deal and will report to extended Spring Training in Arizona.

I actually like this one.
Either he works out rather nicely for our club (he did look good in that last game) or he goes no where and is on the DL before you know it like Loaiza was last year.

Between games, Freddy Garcia agreed to a minor league contract, and manager Ozzie Guillen vowed that he and general manager Ken Williams would make sure that Garcia would be brought along slowly.
Garcia was released by the New York Mets’ organization after only two starts for Triple-A Buffalo, and Garcia has coped with right shoulder problems since 2007 (although his velocity dipped noticeably in his last year with the Sox in 2006).
"We’re going to monitor him well," Guillen said. "We think he can still pitch."

With the way things are now, probably not
But if Colon deteriorates further, Count reverts to erratic, Richard continues to backslide… he’s another July option along with Torres. As junkpile pickups go they could’ve done worse.

Fer Chrissakes. Sorry you didn’t break the story. Maybe if you paid more attention to your “friends” JBasic wouldn’t have aced you out.
Like I said, just upholding the JRE tradition, since he deigns to not post so often any more.

I don't see how the two ideas are in conflict
I’m all for giving Poreda or Torres a shot but there’s no harm in letting Freddy throw for a while in Extended ST and then in, prolly, Charlotte. I don’t think there’s any insinuation he’ll be in the Majors for a while, if at all.
