Bad numbers, but...
Is it absolutely impossible to have Quentin, Pods, and JD in the outfield? I’d be fine with BA as a 4th option, with less at-bats. Who of the three (or two, rather, as JD doesn’t have the speed to play CF) would make the best shift over to center?
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 2:43 PM CDT reply actions
you're asking whether the guy who will have been out for a couple months with a serious foot injury can play CF.
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
Or Scott Podsednik. Yes, that would appear to be the question.
Hey larry, don’t bother answering or anything. If Quentin plays, he’s not playing because his injury isn’t healed.
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions
but do you really think he could play center?

Not Quentin, no. But Pods has done fairly well in LF, save for one recent blunder.
If Pods and Quentin can only play the corners, then isn’t it likely that Pods goes in a trade with someone else to acquire a better CF? I’m just trying to figure out if we can simply move Pods to CF and avoid losing an improved, and still fast player.
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions
as the white sox and quentin themselves have said,
quentin isn’t going to be 100% when he returns. one usually isn’t with a chronic injury.
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
Fine, then the answer the question "Who of the three (or two, rather, as JD doesn’t have the speed to play CF) would make the best shift over to center?" would apparently be Pods.
Now, larry, do you think that Pods being the best option necessarily makes Pods a good option?
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 2:58 PM CDT up reply actions
you sure like asking questions with obvious answers.
now, black sox baseball, will the sun come up tomorrow or won’t it?
White Sox Minor League Updates: http://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry
Obvious answers?
My original question asked which player, out of Pods, JD, or Quentin, would make t he best CF. I wasn’t aware of the fact that the Sox were willing to play Quentin still hurt, considering a remark on SSS saying he might be shut down for the year. Apparently what is an obvious Sox question to you, an editor on a White Sox website, might not be obvious to others and may even lead to those others finding a thing or two out.
Now, with Pods being the best option of the three, as you so painstakingly revealed, all I know is that JD is slow, Quentin doesn’t want to get hurt, and Ozzie said Pods would never play CF. Considering these three things, I asked if moving Pods to CF would be a good option. Considering the very topic of this thread is the Sox making a big move before the trade deadline, perhaps it would be a BETTER move for the Sox to try and acquire someone else. Thus, moving Pods to CF might not be a good move when compared to picking someone else up. Now, while the answer to that may be obvious to you, others aren’t experts and would like to know.
And despite how likely it is that the sun will come up tomorrow, larry, I’d say it’s still more likely that you’ll be a pain to talk to or get any information from tomorrow.
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Since when did Oz say Pods wouldn't play CF
Cause he said he would this morning, so wtf are you reading?
your original question was awful
it was like asking who out of the long relief man, the loogy, or the closer is most likely to get a spot start

by trademaker on May 30, 2009 10:31 PM PDT
That was my original question that larry chose to respond to.
If you go back to my post, the first question is “Is it absolutely impossible to have Quentin, Pods, and JD in the outfield?”
The question you’re referring to was a set-up question.
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions
I think your best coarse of action is to start drinking heavily
and forgot you ever posted that question
by Shakey on Jul 3, 2009 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
even that question is pretty bad
you shouldn’t use phrases like “absolutely impossible” when referring to baseball players playing anywhere on the field. is it absolutely impossible that scott podsednik will turn into a bag of delicious carrots? no. we don’t dwell on absolutes. is it possible that he could play center while JD and Q! flank him? considering he has the best bat out of any of the other OF options and the fact that we were willing to trot griffey out in center with regularity last season even though he wasn’t really hitting i would say yes, and that it is a question that is fairly dumb.
" Do you guys know people like you are the reason I wouldn’t come on for exstended periods of time. You rui the baseball blogging expieriance."
by trademaker on May 30, 2009 10:31 PM PDT
There we go.
Now that you answering my “dumb” question clearly displays that you think Pods could play CF with Quentin in LF and JD in RF, which was the purpose of the question (asking who would play where), I now ask my follow-up to you:
With Pods being the best option of the three, is it the best option for the club to keep Pods and let him play in CF rather than using him and perhaps some other player to instead try and pick up a better CF? I ask because OF is the topic of this thread and because upgrading in OF wasn’t an option before we had two good LF who would questionably convert into CF while already on a poor defensive team. I don’t remember what our record was with errors in games, but it surely wasn’t good.
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 3:41 PM CDT up reply actions
it all depends on what is available and at what cost
i don’t see too many teams being thrilled enough with scott podsednik to give us anything that much better without kicking in one of our top 10 prospects as well.

So the Sox are set, then.
Fair enough.
by Black Sox Baseball on Jul 3, 2009 3:49 PM CDT up reply actions
wordy and overly verbose.
if the question you want answered is whether the sox should trade for a CF, why don’t you just start with asking that question instead of “set-up questions” that have obvious answers.

twins-tiggers tonight, who ya got?
I think I am gonna have to go with slowey over french tonight, and i’d see the twins take these games as well.
Lurking since 2006
Lets say Q! comes back in tip top shape before the deadline.
Who would be a better 3rd baseman, Paul Konerko or Jermaine Dye?
I say we sign the LSU wideout and put him on the Ryan Zimmerman career path right into the bigs, get him 58 ABs(same as Zimmerman in ’05, exactly 1/2 the CF line) and see if his #s are better than that line up top there by our CFs.
Pods moving to center wouldn’t be the end of the world(well maybe it would be, that may be one of the parameters of his deal with Satan) because he takes bad routes and has a girlish arm, but his speed does cover a lot of ground.

I think she's just destroyed any chances she had at getting the GOP nomination in '12
Her primary opponents will be able to trot out the “quitter” line (“When America is facing tough times, the last thing it needs is a quitter”) and she just purposefully thinned her already-thin resume.
Whatever your politics, can we all agree that Obama continues to be really lucky when it comes to political opponents? Ensign, Sanford, now Palin – all potential ’12 opponents and all shooting themselves in the foot.

Yeah, my feelings as well
I don’t however think the Sox should trade him as per Cowley because he’s still the best backup OF they have…and also, it’s not like he would net anything in a trade.

Oh Tdogg.... you make some fantastic Kool-aid.
Mind if I have some of it….. Nothing like a 7 game win streak to turn thoughts around… I remember being at the group outing and talking with u-god about how pods being back wasn’t a good thing… now we can’t take his bat out of the lineup.
pods played cf with the brewers…. dye and quentin…. in center… wow… i can’t believe some of the shit i read on here these days… The old larry would have made black sox baseball into his bitch… damn company man now… doesn’t dish it like he used to….
In my first real night off in 8 weeks, i expected more of Tdogg’s Kool-Aid…. Happy thoughts on our team… the pitching staff cutting down on walks, runs, hits, um well everything… the savior raising his batting average all the way up to .264
I am going to enjoy some freedom beers before america’s birthday and be happy that we are on a 7 game win streak.

Gary McKinnon
no you lot can’t fucking have him, it’s not fair, just because your computers are rubbish and a mentally ill english man can hack into them, if he’s done wrong he should be tried here, in our green and pleasant land
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time
I haven’t seen any evidence anywhere that people with aspberger’s have difficulty understanding the law, and even if prosecutors may be overreacting, the military doesn’t look too kindly on people hacking into their computers.
Is it still the fourth inning?
Aren't crimes usually tried where the victim was?
i.e. if you run an internet scam from Belarus against someone in the US, would the crime be in US jurisdiction?
Allen fucking Stanford
has ripped off thousands of people here, what do you think the chances are we will see him at the Old Bailey? I’ll tell you, it’s somewhere around the fuck all mark, which is around the same number of extraditions to other countries of US citizens suspected of carrying out crimes in the UK.
Apples and oranges
The US isn’t refusing to prosecute Allen Stanford and in fact has been charged on multiple counts of fraud, etc. But reading the wikipedia entry on McKinnon it sounds like the UK refused to charge him. So you had your chance.
Is it still the fourth inning?
he's been charged with
‘heinous crimes against Cricket’ – much like Baseball cricket was a game that God invented on one of his better days
What's the difference?
We’re not talking about a capital case here. While I understand the concern that the previous administration might have done something silly like try to throw him in Guantanamo, the current administration is having enough trouble figuring out what to do with the people already there and sure as hell isn’t looking to add any more!
Heck he could probably just cop a plea and get a few years in a minimal security federal country club.
Basically this sounds like the UK is getting its panties in a bunch about what – some idiot who hacked into some computers he shouldn’t have? Is this guy getting extradited really going to threaten the foundation of the mighty British Empire?
Lemme put it this way – if the situation were reversed and some dude here hacked into British military websites and the UK wanted him extradited, I doubt most people would give a crap.
Is it still the fourth inning?
our military computer systems are encrypted with keys
the people who should be on trial are the knobheads who allowed such lax security in the first place
If I leave my door unlocked and you steal my laptop
It’s still theft.
Sure whoever secured those systems is an idiot, but that doesn’t excuse the behavior and I doubt would be a very effective defense in court.
Is it still the fourth inning?
being serious
Human beings are not parcels to be bundled off around the world to jurisdictions where they have little support and no influence over the law or legal system
then don't sign an extradition treaty
Sorry but somehow trying to pin the blame on the US for exercising their rights under an existing extradition treaty is just stupid.
Is it still the fourth inning?

Gary McKinnon is a Scot, accused of the computer hacking of US military Web sites, and under threat of extradition to the US to stand trial. He has thus far been unsuccessful in fighting extradition, under the current extradition treaty between the UK and the US, seen by many as one-sided.
Gary’s mother Janis Sharp is organising a ‘sing-in’ protest on Thursday 2nd April, involving a multi-artist rendition of Graham Nash’s ‘Chicago’, which originally referenced the ‘Chicago 7’, arrested for protesting at the 1968 Democratic Convention. David has contributed a vocal part to the backing track, although plans are not yet finalised re: other artists’ involvement.
