3 Reasons why the White Sox will win tonight.

1.) My wife and Freddy Garcia have the same birthday.
2.) The first game I took the not-yet-Mrs. fearandloathing to was on April, 16, 2006. The Good Guys beat the Blue Jays 2-1 in a rain-shortened five-inning affair. The winning pitcher? You guessed it………… Freddy Garcia.
3.) Two years ago on this very day, my companion at the aforementioned game did the unthinkable. When asked if she would take me to be her husband, she actually said, “I do” thus making me the luckiest man alive.

How perfect (for me at least) that Mr. Garcia is pitching on the anniversary of that special day. I know he’s a shadow of his former self and that the odds of us winning tonight look awful. On the other hand, what happened two years ago once didn’t seem probable. So……..

Go White Sox!

And Happy Anniversary, my sweet badger.

According to the MILB transactions feed, the Reds have signed OF Lew Ford to a minor-league deal. Ford, 33, returned from a stint in Japan with the Hanshin Tigers and previously had signed a deal with the Rockies but never got into game action. Ford last appeared in the majors in 2007 with the Twins, where he posted a .233/.315/.362 line.

6 years and 69 million dollars is not getting him for nothing

picking him up is like signing a big money free agent…i do hope we see the guy that hit close to 100 doubles in 07 and 08…honestly i havent seen enough of him to know whether i like him or not…i do know i dont like his contract…one major league team has deemed him not worth it, the one i am a fan of thinks he is…so i hope theyre right

Brian Anderson strikes out swinging. Three out.

Alex Rios, meet meathead Sox fans.

Enjoy being compared to Aaron "Wille “Barry Bonds” “Ken Griffey Jr” Mays" Rowand for the rest of your career.

by Ozzie Montana on Aug 25, 2009 9:33 PM CDT reply actions

Untrue

He’s had 2 very good seasons and several OK ones. But Rowand is a player who cannot be rationally discussed as some people deify him for the wrong reasons (grindy) who then it turn make other people think he’s Nick Punto in CF.

i doubt we're having this discussion if the tigers were running away with the division.

everything is magnified because the sox play in the worst division in baseball and have had a sniff of the lead throughout. the sox are not very good. if theywon the division, we’d all look like the cat that just ate the canary because we’d know we got away with something. heart won’t speed up dye’s bat or paulie’s feet, or make q party like it’s 2008.

Think of it like bongwater but to a not even close extent.

by Toonderstrook on Aug 25, 2009 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions

and for what it's worth, the sox (14-16)

have a MUCH BETTER record against the al east than either the tigers (8-17) or twins (7-19) this year. what happened to the twins’ heart there?

Think of it like bongwater but to a not even close extent.

by Toonderstrook on Aug 25, 2009 10:14 PM CDT up reply actions

and now looking at the schedules, the sox got no favors.

sox: 39 games against al east, including 23 against yankees, sawx, and rays. 9-5 so far; 9 left.
det: 36 games against al east, including 20 against yankees, sawx, and rays. 2-11 so far; 7 left.
min: 33 games against al east, including 20 against yankees red sox, and rays. 5-14 so far; 1 left.

on another note, sox, tigers, and twins a combined 3-12 against the blue jays.

Think of it like bongwater but to a not even close extent.

Team is 1 - 30 (40?)

They lose, they win, whatever. They’re not gonna make it to the playoffs. They’re not good enough.

Minn wins - Det ties LAA

So we now are tied with Twins – they have an easier schedule than us or the Tigers… they sit on the side as Det and Sox beat each other up and win the division.
Division finish – 1. Min / 2. Det / 3. Sox

wow, dye has three extrabase hits since his

SLG peaked — not counting the first month of the season — to .574 on July 24th , all homers.

that’s a stretch of 32 games, or 20% of the season.

by explodingpinwheelsforfunandprofit on Aug 25, 2009 10:52 PM CDT reply actions

check that

excluding the first month of the season, jd’s SLG peaked at .574 on July 18th. since that time he has four extrabase hits, all homers.

looking at his fangraph, since 2006 jd’s decline in SLG in the season’s second half has become somewhat of a trend.
