I should thank you for mentioning that yesterday

I bought after hours at 38.50, willing to risk a $1k loss on it. never got a chance. sold mid-day when it dipped under 47. a tad bit better than i’ve done on my past short term spec plays.

by Trooper on Aug 27, 2009 7:23 PM CDT up reply actions

i gave away a great deal of personal account funds on a very risky play earlier in the year

but i’ve gotten a lot of it back on 1-day trades on stocks i can clearly see what will happen next.

glad to hear it made someone around here some money. i made a few friends some cash, too. i’ve been on a soapbox about AIG since last thursday.

Cashing checks and having sex.

by MarketMaker on Aug 27, 2009 7:29 PM CDT up reply actions

i'm generally low risk with anything long-term.

but almost every short term play I make is trying to get a piece of a trend or a shitty company that looks like it should rebound after bad earnings (nice 10% bump on LEAP a few weeks ago).

The best part is I only play around with about 10% at a time, but those plays provide about 35% of the profits so far.

by Trooper on Aug 27, 2009 7:39 PM CDT up reply actions

i love holding very short-term positions from the last hour of trading 1 day and selling it near the open the next.

have been doing well with very low-priced stocks using that strategy. that’s part of why i love the AIG play. the reverse split means this stock is really only just above $2. not unreasonable to think a stock can run from $.50 to a couple bucks. especially one with AIG’s history.

I dunno, but here's a Cubs fan who thinks they can get Hanley Ramirez for Rich Harden!
I just looked it up…
…and Hanley has a six-year extension (through 2014) valued at $70-million. If the Fish were ever interested in dumping payroll (or even looking for diff. options), that’s a contract I would consider picking up.

He could be a prototypical leadoff guy despite the fact that his SBs are down by about half since ’07. He could probably do much better with a better line-up behind him.

If only we had a righty out of the pen like this Green kid.

We’d be in 1st place!

Castro ran into the dugout and told pitcher Jose Contreras, "He hasn't missed a spot all day. I think hes going to do it." Contreras replied, "Shut the fuck up."

Being he the amount of pitches he threw tonight before giving up the HR

I think he’d still have been rested for tonight

One catch (and 1 hit) does not make you a major league player... or does it?

Back to perfectly

mediocre

Best game I ever attended was the 163rd game last year.

if the sox don't take the division, i'd like to see them end the season with perfect mediocrity

81-81, .500 on the road, .500 at home, .500 against the east, west and central. last 10: 5-5. then we can find some harmony in mediocrity.

Sox are 15-8 or so when I watch

WGN/National Broadcast, they did have a losing streak at some point that pissed me off though

Gameplan:

Score 9 or more runs… hopefully that should compensate for the shit play of the bullpen

Rios sucks

Asshole’s never in the starting lineup when we win!

by Carbiner on Aug 27, 2009 9:19 PM CDT reply actions

It feels like august has been far worse than 11-13 so far.

if they pull a 14-14 aug out of their asses I would smile. even a 13-15 wouldn’t be terrible.
