Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

THUN! DER!

Today, with 2 outs and a 3-2 count on Beckham in the 9th inning of what was an impending shut-out loss to complete the Twins' sweep, Nathan served Beckham a pitch that changed the historical ending of our abusive affair with the Metrodome.

Star-divide

This is why you do not shut off the TV until the final out.

Right after Beckham worked back from an 0-2 count and hit a "meaningless home run" (requested in advance by BoeJouma), Paulie stepped up and kept the game alive, tying it at 2 with another solo shot.  Geez, we should really try to tone it down and get some singles, fellas.

From there....Metrodome Meltdown.  Sox won 4-2 due to a rally started with only one strike left to give in their Terrordome career.

We even saw Missah Bobby Jinx pitch in a situation that seemed sorta somewhat appropriate for him!  'the heck, Ozzie??

To commemorate our final game at that goodfernuthin domed vortex of Puntodung, I thought we could all offer a favorite memory or moment from our days there; or at least sign the guestbook at the memorial service of what will soon (enough) be a big pile of worthless dust!

I'll begin by offering mine, already stated in the gamethread that nobody reads other than the fools in the gamethread.

My favorite Metrodome memory is not playing 163 there.

Stick this in your head-first slide and SMOKE IT, PUNTO!

Ajpunto_medium

If we don't win another game this season, I must say....this was as sweet as a victory can taste.  No really, I tasted the victory and it was like a friggin filet mignon.

that was great. our future captain and our current captain going back to back to tie it, each with 2 strikes and 2 outs in the ninth.

rhythm. What fucking channel was this shit on?

For once, I have the opportunity to watch a Sox game, and I go and fuck it up. Well, from reading the yahoo box score and recap, this was a hell of a way to win.

White Sox, FUCK YEAH! Comin’ to save the mother fuckin’ season YEAH! White Sox, FUCK YEAH!

(okay, maybe that’s a bit much, but any win in the terrordome is especially sweet)

My favorite memories of the terrordome were when I would go to games in the late 90’s and be able to sit anywhere I wanted for the grand total of $3 while watching the twinkies lose. That. Place. Sucks.

On a side note, does anyone know of any stealthy keen ways, other than stub hub, to score lower deck seats for the Sat. game against the boston shitheads? I appreciate any and all suggestions received until my friend calls back and I just buy the damn stub hub tix.

And with that, I think I’ve surpassed the number of words in your fanpost. Awesome. Oh yeah, and nice work HSA.

Mine was the time Nathan had 2 outs and 2 strikes (no balls!) on Beckham and

Beckham worked the count to 3-2 before hitting a then-meaningless HR. It was followed by 3 more runs and a White Sox winner!

Don’t recall when that was, but the memory is as beautifully fresh as if it just happened.

Nice recap, btw.

Cleveland's hot streak began September 5th

76-61, 9 games back

Still gotta win at Wrigley, still gotta take care of business at home, still have a lineup that can’t hit for crap, still can’t field the ball, still have to give the ball to Linebrink and Tony Pena.

I would love to see them go on a crazy 2007 Rockies like run to close out the season….but I would also take closing out 2009 with a winning record.

Indian September

So they were 7 out going into Sep 1, reaching a high-water mark of 1½ out Sep 22-24.

An interesting bit is that the twinkies helped in staving off the indians by losing 5 of 7 to the Sox in Sep, including 3 straight at the critical point of Sep 23-25, helping the Sox finally get out of the woods.

listening to this gem on the radio today was my second favorite white sox game ever listened to on the radio

after the perfecto. First I was just pumped for becks. Then for the blown save by nathan, but I kept thinking it just meant the sox would get walked off… Thought we got cox blocked when the ball be dwise, but we didn’t, and then the wild pitch just cemented the win. The fact that they pinch hit for punto is probably why we won.

Please don't torture me the rest of the season for a better draft pick. Let it be a painless death.

Dan Hudson is on his way to the Major Leagues.

At least, that’s what the young right-hander is saying.

According to a Tuesday report in the Newport News Daily Press, Hudson said that he was told by the coaches at Triple-A Charlotte that he soon will be joining the White Sox. The 22-year-old right-hander, selected in the fifth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, has cruised through the White Sox Minor League system this year. He posted a 14-5 record and 2.32 ERA over 26 starts between stints with Class A Kannapolis, Class A Winston-Salem, Double-A Birmingham and Charlotte. He fanned 166 over 147 1/3 innings.

During stops for the Barons and Knights, the highest levels of Minor League competition, Hudson has a perfect 9-0 record with a 2.02 ERA.

Hudson threw just three innings at Norfolk on Tuesday, striking out five, before telling the publication about the big conversation he had with pitching coach Richard Dotson.

“When they told me, I did a double-take. They had to tell me twice before I believed them,” said Hudson of reportedly getting called up after rosters expanded on Sept. 1. “It’s an awesome feeling. Just an amazing feeling.”

White sox pitching coach Don Cooper was asked Wednesday about Hudson’s arrival, but he deferred the decision to general manager Ken Williams as his call. Having pitched three innings Tuesday, Hudson won’t pitch Thursday against the Cubst. But he could get a chance when the fifth starter comes around next, depending on Jake Peavy’s recovery and the White Sox playoff standing.

The only positive memory I have of the Metrodome has nothing to do with the Sox.

Which makes sense, since it’s been nothing but pain and misery in there for so long.

New Years Day, 1995. NFL Wild Card Weekend. Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikes had won the division, the Bears broke into the playoffs with a wild card. But the Bears stormed that morgue and laid the wood to Warren Moon and those silly ass Vikings, and for the first time as a kid old enough to understand what the hell was going on, I got to see my first love, the Chicago Bears, win a playoff game.

Took twelve years to win the next one. Sadly, that is a lot of what made that win so much more special.

Aside from that, for all the Bears and White Sox losses over the years, for poor Rex Grossman’s ripped up leg at the end of a great touchdown scramble, and for all the bad shit I’ve seen in that place, fuck that dome… right in the ass.

And doesn’t really appear to be getting better, reliever trades are pretty useful. Crawford’s probably untouchable though, too much press this year.

I would jump at that deal if I were KW but Tampa would never do it.

They have a better ss and just as good or better closing options as Jenks. Besides, on the free agent market right now, Crawford would get 5 years minimum at close to 100m. Tampa could get much more than that in a trade.

Tyler Flowers: Flowers cannot match Posey’s overall game but this White Sox prospect could make veteran A.J. Pierzynski expendable after the 2010 season – if not before. Flowers might struggle to hit for a high average because he has trouble making contact sometimes (30.5 K%), but he posted a .246 ISO in 248 double-A at-bats before moving up to triple-A. Flowers, an average backstop, also takes a ton of walks, having posted a 19.2% walk rate in 2008 and a rate of 18.7% in double-A in ‘09. Flowers has been a lefty killer in his minor-league career and hit .358 against them this year with an OPS of 1.119.

Favorite Domed Moment/s

Both back to back…

Son was born on the 15th of August 05, and had to ironically travel for the first time ever for work, a week later. first stop twinkie town…i was so tired from the newborn, that i hadnt really had a chance to catch up on the schedule and all i knew was that they were holding first with a vengance…was not so bummed about the travel after i opened the sports page to see our sox were in town.

first game was awesomely long and drawn out near perfect baseball…we lost 0-1 but Garcia actually was a pitcher then. lots of great banter and shit talking with the surrounding twin fans as no matter what they said, or who would win that game, the sock were unfuckable with.

second game was even better cause they won and i got to see my ace buehrle pitch…only got to see maybe 6 games that year as i had left chicago ;(, but damn was that the greatest two games to see for me…unfortunately the other 4 were all away games as well… at the K against the Royals…all of em easy wins.

Wow

Lots of people at BCB feel like this is going to be the start of the Cubs capturing a post season spot… comparing them to the 07 Rockies.

Also, lots are claiming that it feels “like they are in the playoffs now”

We beat them 4 times.

I’m still jacked up, 4 years later.

We’re a pack of a-holes. And my tradition of contributing absolutely nothing to this site... continues.

Didn't someone on this site say the Sox could make a similar run?

Blind optimism runs in the water supply, I suppose.

The Cardinals are actually a good team, at least while Holliday is like a video game character.

The 2009 White Sox....like a 40 degree day.

Da
Along with Chicago bragging rights, the White Sox and Cubs are clinging to outside shots at the postseason.

Damn right, hell with bragging rights, we’ve got a Pennant to win!
