and on the
third fourth day he rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures.
Asked about his thoughts on the weekend, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said simply, "Well, we came to New York and visited the new Yankee Stadium. It is a very nice ballpark. We also stayed at a very nice hotel. That's all I can really say about these past three days."

It's an old joke
Uribe would suck for the majority of the year and eventually he’d get on a hot streak for a couple weeks. Hawk I believe even said, “He can carry a team for a month” which is where the wording of the joke came

from the land of things you already know
One scout who saw Garcia beat the Red Sox on Friday night was unimpressed by the pitcher’s stuff. But if Garcia keeps getting results, the White Sox likely will exercise his option for next season — a $1 million base salary, plus $2 million in incentives.

when you start quibbling over hundreds of thousands of dollars
well, it doesn’t make that much sense. if you’re going to sign a “veteran” starter, $1M is probably the starting price. if the white sox want to go cheaper, they should just stick with torres et al. i’d probably take the latter approach but the price isn’t going to really hamstring the club.

And that, of course, is the key.
There are 5 “bad” (significantly below .500) teams in the AL this year — KC, Baltimore, Cleveland, Toronto and Oakland.

Tigers have 35 comeback wins, Sox have 29.
Tigers are 5-56 when trailing beginning the 9th, Sox are 2-58.
Here’s an unexpected stat: The Tigers have not blown a 9th inning lead all year (63-0). (Sox have blown 3 — they’re 59-3).

Last night Tracy Ringolsby, Colorado Rockie beat writer,
was on Fox Sports New England. He said the reason Contreras did well in his first start and will have a good chance to continue is because he hated AJ Pierzynski, for various reasons, most noteably because of his pitch calling and general unwillingness to call for his forkball.

When count would miss with three straight pitches, or walk a guy, AJ would fling the ball back to the mound in absolute disgust.

And then he shed his cocoon and the magical BHB revealed themselves.

Today was a nice day to be out for a walk, look through the window of a restaurant at 2:30, and discover that the Sox started at noon.

if only we had tools with which we could check the veracity of such assertions.
such as, being able to compare how many forkballs and guy throws in his first start with the rockies and, say, other starts when aj pierzynski was catching contreras. if only…

If only we had the tools to verify the assertion in the original post. One poster on one board (SSS) heard somebody say something?
Once an October ace, the 37-year-old righty started out with 6 2-3 winning innings against Atlanta.
“It was very important to make an impression on my teammates and also because I struggled in Chicago,” he said.
That’s all I could find him saying, either in the game recaps or Denver blogs.

Brad Penny has had amazing initial success pitching for the Giants, so I bet he couldn't wait to leave BOS.
Smoltz did well with the Cards (first start, any way). I bet Jason Varitek is a DB, too. Both he and AJ are from Orlando, so maybe it’s just people from down here.
We’re a pack of a-holes. And my tradition of contributing absolutely nothing to this site... continues.

I wonder why the SBN Rockie's site has no mention of that.
Not the Denver Post.

Our Problem? Clogging up the bases (comment left on a sun-times article)

Chances are very remote, but Kansas takes 2 of 3 we sweep Oakland, and we are right back in it! Yes, there are some fingers to point at KW, AND OG but, yes it is the players who have not got it done. Is it my imagination, or have the Sox played better since Sluggo Jim departed. That guy was a huge part of early failures, always clogging the base paths, striking out 3 out of 4 at bats, with runners in scoring position, tying up the medical staff just so we could watch him strike out 4 times.
They better not bring that piece of sh@t back!!

this is more creative than most.
i hadn’t heard the “tying up the medical staff” accusation before. salient.

Kansas has a team.
Thome ties up the medical staff.

he should just fold that into
clogging up the basepaths, the training room, the toilet, the arteries of teammates.

The underneath of the bus is really clogged up
with all the bodies we’ve thrown under it. Big Jim could barely fit after we threw Rios, Peavy, Richards, Contreras, Colon, Garcia, AJ, BA, Ramirez, Dye, Podsednik, Getz, Fields, Kenny, Ozzie, Quentin, The Hot Dog vendor, Greg Walker, Herm Schneider, and Colon again. Next guy we throw under needs to be greased up before we slide him under there.

Our wonderful third-base coach,Jeff Cox. Dotel, Linebrink, Tony Pena, Randy Williams, Wise. You named him, but Dye gets special under achievment award since break. Greg Walker not far behind.
