White Sox Avoid Arbitration with Tony Pena
The White Sox have quickly settled on 1-year deals with three of their four arbitration-eligible players, Jenks and Quentin over the weekend, and Tony Pena to a $1.2M deal today. That leaves only John Danks, who is, no doubt, the Sox next long-term contract target. Danks is arbitration eligible until '12, and turned down a 4-year deal last season.
What's he worth?

4/28
With a 5th year team option.
http://twitter.com/FutureSox
Two options
4/26 with a mutual option
or preferred by me
as high as 4/29 with option for 5th year
-Jeeves Life in the Cell
I think it will be $26.5M on a 4-year deal
$3.5M in 2010
$4.5M in 2011
$7M in 2012
$11.5M in 2013
What did floyd get? $15/4, if I remember right? With an option year I think…
"Jenks, who was never afraid to say "no" to a hamburger..."
but a year earlier in his arb process
that’s a difference of ~ 10M on the endpoints

unfortunately I think only 3 years is a real possibility, but it will probably be 4

Danks not worried
He's right in being confident.
Jordan being around gives him some leverage, also. 4 years, $30MM, team option for $10.5MM.
Wrigley Field is a postage stamp shithole. It reeks of piss worse than R. Kelly’s underage girlfriend. It’s falling apart faster than Amy Winehouse.
Their fans are denial-addled jagoffs of lowest stripe.
I see where you're coming from in a sentimental sense
but I really don’t believe it’d ever be a major factor in actual negotiations. Being totally serious: do you think Reinsdorf or KW honestly gives a fuck that they’re brothers? Do you think it matters that much to Danks? Do you think either side would blink if the other held this up?
Somewhat, don't you think?
Wasn’t the brother thing a factor in him being drafted where he was drafted? The Sox are huge on the “family” thing as it is.

I would think it's more of a leverage point for the Sox, if anything.
The White Sox have always had a hard-on for the Dankses. They drafted Jordan in 05.

So how is that leverage for the Sox?
Sounds like you are saying they have been panting for anything Danks for 5 years. That would tend to raise the price, yes?

They didn't just draft Jordan because of his brother
they wanted, or at least drafted Jordan first. And yes, they have been panting anything Danks for probably longer than 5 years as I’m sure he was a favorite before the 03 draft when John didn’t make it to the Sox. Still, there has to be some sentimental value for John in playing with your lil’ bro.

While digging through archives
I found this quote from Father Danks after Jordan turned down the Sox in ’05:
"My hope is that he enjoys a couple of years at UT before getting drafted by the White Sox. I love the White Sox. I hope they play in the World Series."
EVERYBODY PICK US FOR 3RD OR 4TH SO I DINK WE DOIN POOTY GOO
Sox Machine
Reinsdorf has had more than a few conversations with Pop.
Sometimes that family stuff does go over rather well.
"You're lucky I'm retired"
Jack Bauer
It makes for lovely quotes because both sides come out looking good
I just have serious doubts that it means anything right up until the reporters come into the room.
Both Dankses dumped Boras after the Sox drafted Jordan.
They played ball; now it’s the Sox’s turn.

I'm watching CNBC this afternoon, just coming out of a nap
and they start a program on gambling with the story of a guy who put $4K on the Sox at the beginning of the 2005 season. Sox were 50:1 odds to win it all. Guy wins $200K. The narrator then mentions the 1919 Sox’ demons being exorcised. Then the show is about the pervasiveness of illegal sports gambling.
Can’t EVER live that year down, can we.

Everyone remembers the Black Sox scandal...but the Teapot Dome Scandal is lost to history.
They should make a movie. James Cromwell can play Secretary of the Interior Albert B. Fall.
amc is making a teapot dome scandal miniseries as we speak

Just visited espn.com's hot stove page,
and is projecting Andrew Jones to play RF, and Q to DH. I hadnt thought of this before but it make perfect sense if we were to not sign Thomer.Link

also noticed Hudson is still a FA,
man its not gonna happen but itd be pretty sweet
Packers done...now 3 months of sports hell.
While it might make sense
Q doesn’t seem the type to do well as a DH. Plus Andruw Jones starting every day is not the plan.. at least I sure as hell hope not. There is no way you add guys like Peavy and Rios just to have Andruw Jones starting.

phew.
and i was worried walk wouldn’t be able to fix him.
Five swings.
That’s all it took for Greg Walker to take a deep sigh of relief and realize that the enigma looked to be back to an All-Star.
No holes. No mechanical flaws. No signs of a player who was carrying the weight of the South Side on his shoulders.
Five swings.
…
‘’But to be honest, it took the first five swings in the cage to show me that he had passed the eye test. Mechanically, this is the Alex Rios I saw on tape when he was in Toronto.’’
This. This is the problem.
We tried to attack the problems that developed late last season, but when that didn’t work, we decided, ‘Well, let’s just give him some time off.’ My hope was that the time away would be what he needed, and the two or three things he developed would disappear.’’
some teacher...
This is the lesson I hear from Walker, “If you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, boy, I tell ya what, sometimes the fish ain’t biting. Sometiimes ya just gotta relax and hope a fish jumps in your boat.”

you left off the beginning of that quote which is the part i find to be a puzzler.
‘’There were some that felt we needed to change his mechanics,’’ Walker said. ‘’I wasn’t in that camp. I don’t think he needs a change mechanically.
(not to mention the change of tense in that last sentence)
if the change needed wasn’t mechanical, what type of problems were they trying to attack? emotional? astrological? i don’t get it.
the suck is not just a river in ireland.
Metaphysical-
The “Base Ball” that he was trying to “Hit” with his “Bat” was neither a ball, nor a bat, and could not be hit.
The first thing he needed to learn was that Baseball is suffering.
The second thing is that the source of this suffering is want, or desire.
The 3rd thing he needs to learn is that cessation of suffering is possible- the craving, the giving up and relinquishing of it, freedom from it, nonreliance on it.
The 4th thing is the path of this cessation of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path:
Right Stance
Right Timing
Right Vision
Right Power
RIght Pitch Selection
Right Fouling Off
RIght Bunting
Right Intentional Walk Drawing.
By following the Path of the Walker, all things are possible.

Maybe there is such a thing as Ozzieball..
So, in 2009, who really was the most aggressive manager when it comes to stealing bases? Ladies and gentlemen… Bob Geren? Geren sent 166 percent of what a league-average manager would have done, outpacing Ozzie Guillen, who was in second place. What’s interesting to note is that Guillen, whose White Sox stole 113 bases (against 49 CS), was rated as more aggressive than Joe Maddon (third place), despite calling for 95 fewer stolen bases than Maddon. Guillen had a slower team to work with, while Maddon had Carl Crawford and B.J. Upton. The model corrects for this bias and shows Guillen to be the aggressive manager that his reputation suggests he is.

“Tony La Russa went to the microphone and ripped the writers, like he always does. That always plays well with the crowd. Danks is either banking on 20 wins this season....
or the sox are being cautious. Which one is it???
Kenwo4life=ratings
Both?
The Sox didn’t agree to a 4th or 5th year? So Danks signed for 1?
Not sure I see a problem here with him under control ’till ’12, right?
"his ballerness could not be stoped which rose his era to 5.42 "
no problem...
just surprised they didn’t lock up a long term deal like they did with Floyd last year.
Kenwo4life=ratings
the sox locked up floyd during spring training after they had agreed to a 1-year contract in january.
this doesn’t change anything.
