Dye for DH?
Hey everyone, I'm new to the site, but I had to move from Chicago and miss talking Sox as much as real pizza and Italian Beef, which I did not know does not exist outside of Chicago.
Anyway, it doesn't take long to see Thome is the first choice of the fans on this site to fill our vacancy at DH, but why no mention of Dye. I'll admit my reasons are far more sentimental than statistical since Dye was our World Series MVP and my seats were in right field where he was always a stand up guy for us fans, but he was the most productive outfielder at the plate from 06 through 08 for all of MLB, he's more versatile than Thome should we need him for an NL game or two and he doesn't carry the stain of Cleveland on him. As much as I like Thome, he will be an Indian come his call to the Hall of Fame, so I'd rather have someone who is a Sox first. (and makes more contact)

Dye was a Brave first.
and i think you meant most productive right fielder from 06-08.
Dye is on record as wanting to play in the field. That seems to be the biggest sticking point. Well that and his awful finish to the 09 season.

That might have been contract related
He played awful in 07 until he was re-upped so he may just need some certainty to perform. I’d give him three years at DH. He may change his mind about DHing the longer he goes unsigned. It beats playing bench warmer for the NL which is the only other rumor I’ve heard for him.

And I meant Sox-first as in association
Not first game as a major-leaguer. In that sense, Dye is as much a Brave as Konerko is a Dodger.

technically yes
but thats not what he wants to do.

Terrible option for DH
in a right-handed heavy batting order. I think he would make a fine DH though as his second-half slides dictate, since he doesn’t have to run all the way from the thirdbase dugout to RF he might be able to be productive. Would make an excellent Royal.
this is the right answer.
if the sox do sign another player whose main purpose will be DH, makes sense to sign a lefty. already have jones and others from the right side.
up until the 2nd half of last year, I would agree with you.
as bad as he was and at his age, i would just as soon take a chance on andruw jones for 500k as dye for 3m?
That's two months of bad play to two years
of sluggish, non-caring, fat assery beyond comprehension.

I would be down with JD at DH
If my pipedream came true and we got left-handed power from elsewhere through trade by moving Konerko (I’m not insinuating Adrian Gonzalez or anyone for that matter). Obviously that is not going to happen. It is amazing how a lot of White Sox power hitters of the past few years have not been valued later in their careers by…well…anyone but the…Sox and the ignorant portion of their fan base.
Once again I think JD would be a great DH since maybe his lack of late year production stems from too heavy a workload for his age bracket. I think the righty/lefty thing is overdone (as a former lefty) anyway but MLB management doesn’t. JD can hit rightys and leftys.
Sure! If he'll accept a platoon where he only bats against LH pitchers.
Seriously though, I think his pride would prevent him from DHing.

Very well, all great points
I still say he’ll put up better offense than Rios this year, wherever he signs.

But Walk said Rios was perfect! :p

Not sure what Rios in CF has to do with Dye as DH, but whatever...
"his ballerness could not be stoped which rose his era to 5.42 "
he'll probably put up better offense than aj, too.
perhaps we should have gone with him at catcher instead of castro.
CF and DH step up to the same home plate
That, and I will take any chance I can to bemoan the pick-up of Rios.

defense is kind of important.
particularly when one considers the chasm between the two players you’re citing.
But my bet was only about offensive numbers
Not overall play.

Back to the food..
Isn’t it just terrible? Truly disappointing to find out the rest of the world doesn’t appreciate the greatness that is an Italian Beef. I was stunned to find out this awful information once I started traveling regularly for my last job.

Yeah
How did the sub become almost universal, but no one South of 80 has ever heard of Italian Beef?

It is a business opportunity
for those with enough gumption and capital, to sell Chicago style beefs elsewhere georgraphically.
I have recently put serious thought into opening a Chicago-style (thick and thin) pizza place in Seattle. I have an investor and a lot of ideas....
This place is severely lacking in good food, namely pizza.
“Beef” is not even in the West Coast vocabulary.

there's been a portillo's in OC for some time now and a new location in the Inland Empire. the 'cooks' get it pretty close, they try.
pizza, however, blows.
These events have me frightened and on the verge of evacuating my bowels.

I remember before going to the Horizon, I would always stop at the one at Touhy/Wolf

Not too long ago, I briefly fumed about hot dogs here... but never went into depth about it.
Suffice to say, big, big problem when your acclaimed hot dog joint is called “Po Boy Dogs” and the average hot dog is about $5, and it’s run by hipster doucherags.
I laughed in the guy’s face and then removed my hot dog from the order, citing, “I bet it’s not even really good beef!”
Po boy my ass!

The hobos in Seattle are very well behaved
I went to Seattle last summer and I agree, it lacks good food. Besides sweets, everything I ate that week was very unmemorable. I did enjoy the garlic fries I had at Safeco however, even if it has been tainted with memories of Pods getting picked off at 3rd…
I’ve also never had a great burger on the West Coast, In N Out excluded.
Huh? Another female poster?
Clearly, the joint is running over with y’all.
Welcome.

i'd be happy with anyone.
I think a lefty would fit in better with the lineup…. but if its a righty like Dye then so be it. My personal choice is Carlos Delgado though.

So you're into necrophilia?
Hey, whatever floats your boat.
What would it take to trade for Adam Dunn?
I’d love his bat, but no, I don’t really think we should get him. Just sign Thome!
