Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

A collection of photos documenting the excitement before the storm. Nothing too exciting, but there are some good shots in there.

I remember that debacle

I was living in Clio MI at the time. They played the Tigers that night, so it was on TV there.
Boy, did I catch a lot of flak the next day at work over that shit.

Funny and sad at the same time

I think this was covered on the 30th anniversary…but it goes to show you the sad state of White Sox baseball circa 1979.

Here’s the box score from game 1:

Serves as a reminder that the last 20 years have been good to Sox fans.

I know everyone loves Bill Veeck (he was a good promoter. “Self” as well as baseball), but you can see why Reinsdorf wanted to get away from that shit as quickly as possible.

It should be noted that Steve Dahl was 24 at the time. Incredible.

The guy at the bank doesn't care how many trophies you've got!

But, but...

Veeck loved the fans while Einhorn would call the dugout and tell the manager to tell the pitcher to leave the ball on the mound, so somebody could win that stupid betting game in the owner’s box!!!

Veeck’s story was entertaining, and he caught lightning in a bottle one season in 1977, enough to finish in 3rd place, but his 2nd ownership reign was a mostly miserable collection of Wayne Nordhagens and Kevin Bells.

Some of the ugliest people to be photographed.

Jesus Christ. These people are terrifying 30+ years ago. Imagine them now.

And this was in pre-meth times!

I am guessing the 80’s treated most of these folks harshly. Just a bunch of rascals out there that day.

What's great about your comment is that you were there, OPOS!!!

And if I’m not mistaken, I think you’re in a few of those photos.

It’s taken years of practice to be such an asshole.

I was in right field, not center.

Maybe center was the “ugly pen”.

I guess one man's pain in the ass is another’s perfect fit.

Even cooler since I know the photographer.

Thanks for the heads-up!
