White Sox: Realistically there's little chance they will get Jeter but the fit shouldn't be discounted out of hand. Alexei Ramirez, like Castro, is a rising star. But his original four-year deal ends in 2011 and he will become an expensive proposition starting in '12. If the White Sox signed Jeter, they could make a series of moves that would give them a chance to win in '11 and '12, the last seasons they could have their strong starting rotation in place.

Just so I understand Phil

Because Alexei’s price tag rises, the White Sox should go out and sign a MORE expensive and older Jeter at a stupid rate that would position the team to make a series of moves giving them a chance to win in 11 or 12.

How does this man have a job????

Does UZR take into consideration the JumpThrow?

My other favorite

Twins: Because the Twins can’t beat Jeter, maybe they can sign him. The Twins aren’t crazy about J.J. Hardy, which is why they have negotiated for the rights to talk contract with Tsuyoshi Nishioka, the .346-hitting shortstop of the Chiba Lotte Marines, and have had preliminary talks with the Red Sox about Scutaro. Adding a guy with Jeter’s presence could be the equivalent of adding a front-line starter, which is the piece that has seemed lacking.

I didn't realize there was a minimum age for being senile, but it makes sense

dude has gray hair in his photo, if that helps.

It’s taken years of practice to be such an asshole.

OTOH, a cogent piece in the NYT yesterday:
Forget the gross distortion in terms of statistical impact and transcendent stature. Ruth was bombastic, profligate, crude — antithetical to Jeter in every imaginable way.
If there is a historical comparison to be made — mainly in personality and aura — then Jeter is Lou Gehrig. Here, we at least have a documented record to draw on.
Remember Jeter’s stirring speech to fans after the last game at old Yankee Stadium in September 2008? This is what General Manager Brian Cashman had to say afterward, when he was presumably dealing from the heart, and not on the grubby news media tour he undertook last week in torrid retaliation to Close.
