Bobby Jenks: In Memoriam
December 17, 2004 - December 2, 2010
We are gathered here today to remember Robert Scott "Bobby" Jenks. Bobby came to us from the Anaheim Angels for $20,000. Today, he leaves us.
My favorite Bobby Jenks memory is Bobby throwing the final pitch of the 2005 World Series.
Please add your memory - or at least your name - to the guestbook below.

Intoxicated with the wine of cloaking powers and the gin of banning authority since 2005.

Everyone leaves eventually.
I was attached to Bobby a couple of years ago – irrationally, when it was suggested we trade him at teh peak of his value, which just so happened to be when I didn’t want to give him up – but have seen the error of my ways and believe in the fungibility of human beings, to say nothing of relievers.
However, my favorite Jenks montage was him coming out of nowhere in 2005 and absolutely elecrifying everyone when he entered the last inning of any game. He had me jacked way up for all the right reasons. I’ll always buy you a Yoo Hoo, Bobby, for your contribution to the success of 2005. Thank you for a lifetime of memories squeezed into a few short months.

Runners up?:
Ozzie signaling to the bullpen in Game 1.
Curveball to end game 3 of the ALDS. It was a beaut.
Jumping up and down on the mound at the end of the blackout game.
He was a good closer, but his price was getting awfully steep.
Thanks for the memories. May the next guy to wear 45 be as memorable as the last two.
The guy at the bank doesn't care how many trophies you've got!
#44 is taken by Peavy...
so maybe Adam Dunn will wear #45?
I cannot answer any more questions for you today. I has wickeds gas from drink too manys redbull.

Yeah, about two years ago IMO.
I would rather use Bobby’s current value to get someone good (and try Dotel – hope he has a great season – or Thornton to close) than let him fizzle out on our watch.
Bobby can give up a home run or put runners on base as well as the next one. I love the guy – been great to us – but if he is the player who gives us leverage to get something we need more (CF/SP), I’m all for trading him.

My favorite is the Bagwell strikeout in Game 1… my God Almighty, was that magical. 101?? Sit your bearded ass down, old man.
I would also like to give honorable mention game 3 of the thunderdome series. Maybe the most excruciating loss ever, and Bobby was the one to blow it, but not before a hell of an effort retiring six straight batters – Castilla, Mauer, Morneau, Coddyer, Young and Harris. Not your fault, BBBJ. Not your fault that you and Thornton were all we had.
Happy Jenksgiving to one and all.

Wow.
Favorite Jenks moment was Game 1 of the World Series when he came into the game in the eigth to face Bagwell and struck him out with the soon to disappear 100 mph fastballs.
Shocked about Dunn, if they keep Konerko as well I may keel over from sox anticipation before April.
we're going to need a eulogy soon

Ahh..
I just remember when he first came out to pitch for us and I was like, “That large man can throw a baseball at pitcher speeds?” and then he proceeded to blow a snapping pitch past the batter at about 100mph.
I lost confidence in Jenks this past year . . . .
but his failure to bail out last year’s flawed team does not diminish what he accomplished for us in his team on the South Side. My favorite Jenks story was GAme 163 in 2008. That morning Eric Karabel on the Baseball Today podcast predicted that the Twins would win the game and that Jenks would blow the save. Well, we know how that turned out. I wrote into the podcast right after the game, and Karabel, hats off to him, read my email on the next day’s show, which said among other things, sorry Eric, Jenks didn’t blow the save.
Good luck, Bobby. I wish you well.
you're one of a kind, bobby.

What else can it be?

You must have me confused with someone else, I have never been to Chicago.
[whispers] I sexually assaulted Scottie Pippen in 1997.
Bye Bye, Big Boy
I loved Ozzie coming out and calling for the “Big Boy.” That sort of captured the spirit of that entire year. Also, throwing the last pitch in the 2005 series makes him a big part of history.
I hope where ever he winds up next year that they have loose fitting uniforms and is not located in a warm climate.
I’m thinking he’d be a smash hit in Milwaukee. . .

Bobby Jenks
Yes Bobby was great in the world series and had go times after that. He was always smug and a bit of a loafer as time went on. Could have been one of the all-time great closers if he had kept his head on straight. Glad to see him leave.
