Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

SoxFest Around the Corner

January 21st-23rd at the Palmer House Hilton, the Sox will be holding their annual fan convention.  Names have started to come out on the attendees.  Guests will have the chance to meet, listen to and receive autographs from Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Edwin Jackson, Brent Lillibridge, Juan Pierre, Chris Sale and Manager Ozzie Guillen.  Former players Ron Kittle, Harold Baines, Bill Melton, Minnie Minoso, Roberto Hernandez and Jose Valentin are scheduled to appear as well.

SoxFest is my personal favorite time of the winter.  It allows me to escape from the winter and reality for 3 days to hang out with my dad, brother, many Sox fans and the ability to have access to the players that you don't get during the regular season.  One of my favorite aspects of the event is the seminar session with Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen.  Prior to SoxFest 2006, this used to get really heated between Williams and the fans asking questions on just what in the hell Kenny has been doing during the offseason.  I, for one, gave him a piece of my mind in 2005 about the Carlos Lee/ Scott Podsednik deal.  The last few years have been kind of easy on the brass, with most of the fans still giving a pass due to the World Series win.  However, I have a feeling things will change this year if Kenny doesn't make some kind of a decent impact and loses Sox heroes like Konerko and Pierzynski.

I also enjoy the opportunity of meeting past favorites of mine.  Ron Kittle and Harold Baines are always there, but usually they bring in a few guys from years past that don't usually come around.  I am really excited about Roberto Hernandez and Jose Valentin coming in.  I really enjoyed watching them play throughout their White Sox tenures.  Valentin did not get the credit he deserved for how good of a player he was around here.  Last season, Lance Johnson made an appearance which was great.  He even signed my 8X10 "1-Dogg".  Who are some guys that you would like to see come back for a special appearance?

Come on out to SoxFest!  Maybe I'll even let you buy me a drink!!

I personally would like to see them bring up George Bell for an autograph signing.

I know Egus is too cool for it… but i have every major 1993 team member on a poster except for him. Would be nice to complete it.

having the whole team is pretty cool I guess.

I think I might go this year.

the only thing that is relevant is SSS.

I am glad you posted this because I have a question

It appears you can only buy Soxfest passes if you also purchase a hotel room. When do tickets go on sale for people who don’t need a hotel room. I would like to go.

by Rhubarb on Dec 2, 2010 11:45 AM CST reply actions

i called the park

they said there isn’t a release date for individual passes yet. She said expect an announcement after they return from christmas break sometime around Jan. 4th. She also said it will be in Email updates if you are signed up for those.

Friday night is only open to hotel guests. (As a hotel guest, I absolutely love this as the crowd is really thinned down that first night).

Thank you.

I think it is weak about Friday night, although if I ponied up the cash i would probably think differently. The 15th I get to see Lebron booed at the UC and on the 22nd I get to creep around the Palmer.

by Rhubarb on Dec 2, 2010 11:59 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I'm getting a Friday pass from a friend who has the hotel room.

Gonna be good times.

And the only autograph I want to see him give is on a contract.

There was espn talking head speculation that both sides

were going to sit and try and work out an extension. Anything real to that?

See you there. If you're in the hotel - you get to go to the Friday night events.

There was some talk about a Miller’s Pub methup before the curtain raiser Friday afternoon.

So if you’re cool with day drinking…

I went to one SoxFest, and it was enough for me

2008, and my best memory was seeing Swisher and JO drinking with fans in the hotel bar in the wee hours. I thought, man, that Nick Swisher is going to be a legend in this town. He’s going to have his own restaurant and his face painted on a 6 story building on the freeway, yessirree…

I shant be misled a second time

Nostradamous made mistakes, too, Nordy.

But both FNS AND JO at the same time! Like seeing 2 red suns at the same time.

OK, calm down on the comments, dude.

Pace yourself a bit. Lots of news is going to be coming out over the next couple of months. Re-lax.

made me hot and irritated

I'D LIKE TO APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE FOR MY BEHAVIOR!! I DAYDREAM WITH THE BEST OF THEM.......

I'd love to go to Soxfest, if only to get KenWo to buy me a drink

but Valentin’s presence is what would set it over the top if I lived anywhere near Chicago.

I used to call him the error machine and incorrectly thought Clayton was the better option. In my defense, I didn’t get to see many games…but man was I wrong. Seeing the error of my ways, I’ve come to appreciate Valentin and his sweet stache. Long live Valentin!
