Johnny For Realz?
The Johnny Damon talks haven't just picked up, but now the White Sox front office is feeling like they may have "significantly'' closed the gap between themselves and Detroit for the free agent's services.
That was the word from several sources on Wednesday afternoon, as the team has laid out all their cards - at least the ones under their self-imposed salary cap - on the table.
One source did warn, however, that Detroit has more money out there and was still the frontrunner. The Sox are just doing everything they can to make sure it isn't an easy decision for Damon.

If the Sox do land Damon the plan is to primarily use him as their DH, giving him some reps in the outfield.

My point is, it’s stupid to just say b/c it’s Boras, there is no chance it happens. Clearly they are having some kind of dialogue with the Sox, and at this point Boras has few options, if his client prefers playing for the White Sox for less money, he has to accept it.
I’m not suggesting we’ll make a habit of signing Boras clients, but the ice seems to have thawed some.

He’s already blown so much money—-he likely can’t deal with the idea of taking the lower offer…..was fun while it lasted though.
Maybe at this point it's better..
Now he can just say he wanted to play for the team that he thought had the best chance of winning and where his family felt comfortable, and doesn’t care about the money at all.

Complaining about baseless internet rumors is like complaning about water being wet..but here goes
The latest buzz is that the Tigers have cleared a locker in Lakeland for Damon. This is attributed to the Daily Herald blog post, which is attributed to….nothing. Not even a “source close to the White Sox/Tigers/Damon/negotiations.”
