The joy in my household with today's Sox victory #10 in a row was tempered a bit with a tough loss to LaSalle Bakery for my plucky Little Leaguers. (Fortunately, we were able to go completely bat-shit crazy for a few minutes after seeing Q!'s homer before leaving for our game.) The victory clinched the championship for LaSalle in the best of 3 series. We just didn't have enough hitting to overcome our season long defensive butchery. Sadly, our right fielder was DFA'd after the game.
I do have to give credit to LaSalle. My guys really had a lot of trouble with their starter (some kid named Carlos who looked a lot older than 12....just sayin'). He was really outstanding, he relied on changing speeds, getting guys out throwing 62 as well as 38. He seemed really confident and in control but I think we could've gotten to him if our games went 7 innings instead of 6 .
Fortunately only 2 of our 12 guys are graduating up to Babe Ruth League so we'll have a pretty strong squad next year. I was happy that popsicles and ice cream bars made the sting go away for the kids pretty quickly (after dealing with 12 9-12 year olds and their parents for 2 months, Coach GRP needed something a little stronger, specifically a tumbler of Knob Creek Bourbon.) All in all though, a pretty good year.
Now, let's get that #11 for the big boys.
