Adam Dunn to Sox?
Anyone think Kenny goes and gets this guy? I really don't see a need for Mark Kotsay or Scott Linebrink anymore....Dunn would make the perfect DH. He K's a lot, but is on pace to maybe get 45 HRs, and if he comes and here.....his AB's can become HELL IN A CELL. Dunn is batting .278...I say buy and take the K's He is Jim Thome, younger, faster (not by much) and can field.

Is the question
Will they or should they get Dunn? I answer yes to should they, but I do not see it likely that they do.
The Angels are also in the mix as well and have a better farm than the Sox. If the Sox want Dunn it would take Flowers I imagine especially after his value has fallen off a bit this season (24 in AAA and not raking is unattractive).
Dunn is the player I wanted the Sox to sign in the offseason 2 years ago. I’ve always been a huge fan of his obp/slg. Personally a strikeout is no different than a groundout in most cases and the pros/cons of each weigh each other out. The man can mash and get on base. It is exactly what the team needs.
The only player I would not trade for Dunn is Hudson.
Get it ’Dunn" Kenny.
It would take Hudson+Flowers (and maybe some filler) to get Dunn
This is what happens when you punt on a chance to pay $1.5M for a .900 OPS bat in the offseason.
Even with Dunn, the Sox would not be favored to win the division this season. They can’t trade Hudson for rental that likely won’t get them to the playoffs. I’d rather see them go after cheaper players (I assume Luke Scott would cost less than Dunn). Just getting a couple of mediocre guys for to play somewhere DH/3B/2B/LF/C vortex of suck would be a big improvement.

What are you basing this on?
Dunn is a sold, but not great bat with no position. You can safely say that half the teams in the league are pretty much out it right now who are all trying to pawn off veteran contracts. The market is way to fluid for the Nationals to be able to get they kind of return.
Cowley said on 670 that the Nats would ask for Carlos Quentin in the package
What’s equivalent value of CQ in unproven prospects? I assume it would be at least Flowers & Hudson.

Quentin has been replacement level so far
and certainly was about that last season too. There have been plenty of non-tender whispers. It’s not exactly a high price to pay. There’s plenty of chance that CQ washes out.
Fireworks: Bang?
it really and definitely would not take Hudson and Flowers
if they get a top 100 prospect, that would be a coup.
Fireworks: Bang?
ill give'em castro and ciolli.

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

Unless the Nats have deluded themselves into thinking they'll make the playoffs
they should not be asking for anyone along the lines of hudson or flowers. Unless there’s an extension that Cot’s isn’t showing Dunn is a free agent after this season. I can’t imagine a all bat, no glove half season rental would call for a top prospect.
A middling/fringy/interesting prospect or two plus taking on his full contract should be enough in a vacuum. Now if there’s a high demand his price may go up, but I would be shocked if flowers or hudson was traded for dunn

This question is impossible to answer without talking about who the Nationals would want in return.
Do I think Dunn would make the Sox better? Yes
Would I trade Hudson for him? No
Would I trade Jordan Danks or a similar value prospect for him? Yes
Agreed.

The Nats said...
it would be painful to trade away Dunn. And just as painful for the team trading for em. They want a pretty penny.
because they own him?
something tells me even the mafia wouldn't call on greg walker if a hit was needed.
-MarketMaker
my point is i can say
I want a million dollars. Doesnt mean its going to happen.
