I did post it there.

Not surprisingly, Cubs fans were in favor. Not surprised you guys aren’t, even though I think Z might be successful for you. Ozzie might be the one manager who could get the most out of him.

by Al Yellon on Jul 25, 2010 10:37 AM CDT up reply actions

i bet they were

because the trade is in the cubs favor. Z is not worth the remainder of his contract , and that he is a headcase only reduces his value.

of course it’s not certain how peavy will recover, given the uniqueness of the injury, but from what we’ve read from the specialists, will carroll, etc, there is some reason to be hopeful he will pitch by spring training or not much later.

it may be more feasible for the sox to take on Z if the cubs ate up much of the contract, but the cubs are in this predicament because of jim hendry.

why should the sox have to pay for hendry’s mistake?

How about Beckham and cash to the Cubs for Alfonso Soriano while we’re at it?

Cubs...worst big contract portfolio in baseball

Soriano, Zambrano, Fukudome, Ramirez…… nothing like your core payroll being tied up to this group of underachievers and goofs.

So who has the worst the bundle of big buck contracts? It was the Blue Jays hands down (when Rios was sucking for them) thanks to J.P. Ricciardi.

Giants have to be a contender and probably the Mets.

the cubs and yankees have lots of bad deals on the books. the mets have a couple.

the blue jays and giants each have 1 brutal deal on the books. otherwise, they’re fine.

i wouldn’t buy the theory – i think zambrano obviously has impulses he can’t control – but it’s not totally off the wall to suggest that a different work environment with a spanish speaking boss who he’s friendly with could help.

I know they're friends, but you can make an argument that it would complicate matters more than help.

Zambrano’s problem is he’s just not a great pitcher anymore. From a pure baseball standpoint it’s not a good trade, add in the histrionics it makes it a moot point.

Also, part of his value comes from the bat. You take that element out and his contract is even worse.

Not sure what you mean.
There isn’t now, ever was, nor ever shall be a fanbase as rude, arrogant and just downright asinine… as the White Sox fans. You’d swear to God their team this year is a dynasty in the making and comparable to the ‘29 Yankees. I, for one, can NOT wait ’till this team falls flat on their faces…and it’s coming.
Ron Santo – 8,143 ABs, .277 BA; 342 HR; 1331 RBI = NO Hall of Fame?

Sox hat guy: "Well, at least we won it in 2005 and ain’t had to wait since 1908 like you guys, a$$hole, so, screw you!
Cubs’ hat guy: "Alrighty then…have a nice day."

Because if it is, I have some doubts about it’s veracity. Let me send it to the lab for analysis.

by 67WMAQ on Jul 26, 2010 10:04 AM CDT up reply actions

After testing out the line, here's the flaw:

If this Boogeyman Sox Fan is already at the point where he’s calling a complete stranger an “a$$hole” … unprovoked … in a bank … wouldn’t they go the next step and cap it off with an F-bomb? At that point, you’re not trying to let ‘em down easy; you’re going for sheer effect. “Screw” just doesn’t do.

So there’s the hole in that anecdote. Also, I enjoyed the this post, in which the poster, attempting to point out a hilarious stereotype of Sox fans, actually becomes a stereotype of a Cub fan with the latent racism poking through.

If we're going to propose goofy trades with the Cubs

how about Fukodome for Linebrink? Gives us our LHB that plays a plus RF, and he actually gets on base occasionally. They’d have to eat some of his salary, but they seem willing to do that.

If Ozzie can’t stomach bringing Linebrink out the last two games get rid of him – now.

I am become Q! Destroyer of Worlds

by ChicagoPete on Jul 26, 2010 9:16 AM CDT reply actions

linebrink did pitch on saturday.

i think i wouldn’t mind this. linebrink is replacement levelish so you’re essentially pissing away his salary ($5.5M next season). fukudome makes $13.5M next season. not sure if fukudome will be worth the net difference but it probably won’t be too far off. if they kick in some salary, that would obviously bridge the gap but i’m not sure they would.

by larry on Jul 26, 2010 9:52 AM CDT up reply actions

Linebrink finally got in that game?

Then looks like he’s been relegated to 3rd mop-up behind Pena and Threets.

KW made a hard run at Fukodome when he was FA, and you know how he loves to get his man. Plus Ozzie wouldn’t complain about him because he can actually play a position. He’d definitely be a big upgrade over Kotsay, brings a lot more offense AND he can play RF so we can stick Q at DH more often w/o running Andruw Jones out there.

I am become Q! Destroyer of Worlds
