The Real Break (half way point and WAR)

The Sox reached the half way point last night. I think most fans now realize the all star break really isn't 2 equal halves. Whatever. There was a lot of talk about WAR preseason and what it would take for the Sox to succeed. Some of us even gave a preseason line or 2 for players. I thought it might be interesting to take a snapshot (camera click sound) and looked what the men in black have given us so far. Look at it. Smell it. Taste it. Now give it back. What do you think the final numbers will be? Come on common folk. No fancy protractor or calc equations (okay a few- Colin can't help him self). Also no lazy updated Zips. This is just Pete's eyeball test and KW's gut. Do a few. Just curious of people's opinion of what's to come.

Yeah, with the recent news, Peavy's gotta go.

Throw Hudson up there instead and I’ll say 1.0 WAR.

I just threw 2.9 up there for Alexei because I want to poke fun at you later.

As for Beckham, I don’t think he can possibly keep up being this bad. He gets sent down, returns in Sept, and puts up good numbers from Sept till Oct. He picks up another .5 in the process.

I don’t think Floyd will end up with 5.5, or even crack 5, but here’s hoping he will.

I'll do a couple

Rios: 5
Konerko: 3.5
Alexei: 2.5 (extra .5 just for you)

the pitchers will do what they do. Danks will xFIP around 4, Floyd around 3.8, Buehrle will be worse but pull his normal magic to compensate. Freddy could implode at some point, so i’ll hedge and say 5.00, though I think 4.5 – 4.75 is the mode. The relievers will probably regress across the board, but still maintain relative excellent.

Then there’s a bunch of 0-2 win position players that’ll sort themselves out. I don’t really see anybody I’d take over the average Royal though.

Hudson’s the wild card. If he can spot his fastball and he’s 92+, he could fill in remarkably well for Peavy. But that’s still a tall order.

I'll back you on 3.5 for Alexei

I just wished he could start hot rather than needing two months to get it going. I think Q will continue his torrid pace and end with 3. I also think Danks will end with 5 and Floyd 4.5. I don’t know why you guys all have Floyd ahead of Danks. My eyeball test tells me Danks is the best SP on the team by far.
