Yikes!
I didn’t want Kenny to give up on the guy, so I feel somewhat vindicated. Time will tell. Best of luck to Mr. Hudson.
And did you hear the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup?
larry
still think he is only a 4 or 5?

larry gets pissy when he finds out not everyone reads every word he writes on the site
best to just leave it be.
if people aren't going to bother to read it
then they shouldn’t bother me to ask for my opinion.
those two got a sarcastic reply because both commented on the post but obviously didn’t read it. which i found amusing.
I enjoyed it.

was waiting for this comment.
obviously, it’s only one game. also, we already know and can adjust – thanks, manto! – for that difference.
ely was a crappy pitcher. nothing changed.
i doubt there’s anyone, even those who are happy to see hudson go, who think ely is superior.
Ely is a crappy pitcher.
Fixed.
Its sort of a chess match right now but some upgrades are still possible with very little cost except money.

my patented league stat translation formula yields what his line would have been if he was pitching against an AL team*:
5 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 4 ER
*seattle not included

First rule of southsidesox is you do not talk about Daniel Hudson
the second rule of southsidesox is you do not talk about Daniel Hudson
Reporter: I was wondering if at any point in my lifetime the Cubs weren't going to be run by a guy who didn't immediately remind me of failure, confusion, or imminent death
Yeah he probably would have got it into a car accident on the way to the game Friday if we hadn't traded him...
this
is in bad taste.

Actually, the first rule of southsidesox was
you do not trade Daniel Hudson unless you get someone Hawk calls “country strong” in return.

But that's against wimpy NL hitters
who use those thin, yellow whiffle ball bats, and they let pitchers run halfway up to the plate before they pitch. They also let the catcher hold the hitter’s bat, and they spot pitchers just over from the AL 2 strikes on each batter.

well, this is essentially a kind of challenge trade.
KW traded a starting pitcher, in his current rotation, for another starting pitcher. this trade will be judged – justifiably or not – based upon how each performs over the next two months.
and Jackson sure as hell better perform better than the difference in cost, otherwise the trade isn't justified.
It’s taken years of practice to be such an asshole.
by Chiburb on Jun 1, 2010 10:35 AM PDT
that's how the trade will be viewed here.
not among the mainstream. it’s the next two months. which, as i think most of us know, will have a large heaping of chance in its outcome. but we also all know KW is a gambler.
So this trade, in my view, is a bit of rearranging some deck chairs these last two months
but it’s the cost going forward that chaps my ass, as it may prevent signing a player in the off-season that can actually hit worth a shit.
That and I think Hudson will be better than Jackson for the next 5 years…but I digress.
Ah well, it’s not like I’m going to stop being a Sox fan.

by Chiburb on Jun 1, 2010 10:35 AM PDT
Didn't work last year - crapped out.
Rios worked out fine this year but, as you stated earlier, Richard has outperformed Peavy thus far. For the cost KW is not even batting .500 with his 2009 trade/waiver deadline deals.
Its sort of a chess match right now but some upgrades are still possible with very little cost except money.
by Tdogg on Jul 23, 2010 10:13 AM EDT
i think people viewed those a bit differently.
peavy for sure. and i think it’s been written about numerous times all over the place that deadline deals rarely make a clear positive impact.
the NL says hi
something tells me even the mafia wouldn't call on greg walker if a hit was needed.

Lastly, we are breaking even thus far.
Lucas Harrell 1, Hudson 1. It’s a wash.
Its sort of a chess match right now but some upgrades are still possible with very little cost except money.
by Tdogg on Jul 23, 2010 10:13 AM EDT
True.
But I’d feel much better if the deal was Harrell and Holmberg for Jackson. You’d think a guy with an ERA over 5 in the NL who makes over $8M next year wouldn’t cost your top prospect and another C+ pitcher.
I get that KW’s gambling and wants innings stability at the back end of the rotation with guys like Freddy and Mark, but I was under the impression that Hudson had enough of a reputation to be the centerpiece of a bigger deal. But maybe I’m overvaluing our farm system. Maybe we just don’t have the secondary prospects to include for a Dunn, Haren or even Manny without giving up someone from the major league roster.
agreed. compared to the crap that was given up for haren,
not sure why jackson was so expensive. current productivity should dictate price, not past performance. currently jackson isn’t so hot

For everyone judging trades please relax in the 1 game comparisons
Peavy pitching at the Cell for half his starts versus Richard at Petco is a huge difference. Its also the reason the Linebrink signing was so shitty. And guess what? San Diego has a bullpen that again seems lights out. Are those guys prized?
Today Heath Bell got a save despite giving up a couple bombs that would have been 15 rows deep at the Cell. One was a double where the RF was so far in that he had to run 40 feet and it was still a 5 hopper to the wall.
Ryan Ludwick crushed a breaking ball and knew it was gone in St Louis. Caught about 20 feet in front of the warning track in left center at the dog run.
