Ozzie Guillen Says F You And Your Fascination With American League Baseball
"For all those people there saying it was my fault about Jim Thome, yes it's my fault. [...] If those people don't like that, [fuck] them."
"Every time we had Jim Thome here, we couldn't play him against the National League," Guillen said. "Why won't anybody give me credit for that one? We won 15 games. And Jimbo had one, two at-bats every time we played those guys. And we made this run because we played good against the National League. We got hot then.
"I have my head on my shoulders, and I think we did the right thing with what we did in spring training. If people don't like it, good. They don't like it, they don't have to watch the (bleeping) White Sox.
"Oh and I got one more year on my contract, just make sure to tell Jerry (Reinsdorf), get it ready, this crazy (bleeping) Mexican, it's fine with me. They going to blame me about one home run, I'll take the blame.''

Ozzie is so right
you can’t throw a guy under the bus for not being a psychic… NO ONE knew Jim Thome was going to be playing so well this year
we have to stop being total reactionary sensationalists, it makes us look less like the more educated among baseball fans we are and more like Cubbie fans or ESPN talking heads

fuck you you fucking fuck
Now he knows he fucked up, he wouldn’t be so bent out of shape if he didn’t.
One thing I will give to Ozzie, he does learn and he does change. If anything positive comes out of falling out of contention, he’ll realize you can’t throw slop at the DH. Probably a blessing in disguise we didn’t win the division or else we’d be looking at this crap every year.
"We are strong enough as we are and everything fits together in such a way that the only thing we were going to add would be something of an impact guy," KW
Yeah, I kinda view it in the same way as the '03-'04 pitching staffs that lacked a real 5th starter
that, in part, resulted in a run of 5+ years of the Sox having the most durable staff in baseball.
Unfortunately, the Sox have so much $ devoted to that rotation next year, I don’t know how they’ll correct the lack of Major League bats on the ‘11 roster… I fear it’s going to take until the ’12 regime change to start to get things headed back in the right direction

I'm with Ozzie. Good for him
He’s right about that whole National league point as well. To me he sounds more pissed that he’s taking the heat because Thome is doing stuff there he didn’t do here. Thome couldn’t hit the other way or hit left handed pitching to save his life here.
If people want to be upset about letting guys go, be more upset about trading Clayton Richards for a guy that’s given us half a season and may not ever be the same and cost us millions. That’s something to really be pissed about.

We heard the same stuff then after losing Lee, Valentine, and Mags. And having Pods at leadoff and Everrtt at DH. After Thomas went down we wondered if that was enough. All we got was Geoff Blum. But Ozzie wanted the team he wanted and it worked. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt. A balanced, talented lineup is one that works. If they win this division that all that matters.

In 2009 alone:
April 7: Thome hits a three-run shot off Kyle Farnsworth in the eighth inning, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. They’d win by that score.
April 12: Breaks a 1-1 tie against the Twins with a two-run shot off Nick Blackburn in the sixth inning. The Sox win 6-1.
May 18: Down 2-0 in the eighth inning in Toronto, Thome ties it with a two-out homer off Jesse Carlson. Unfortunately, since it’s Toronto, the Sox still lose, 3-2.
June 1: Thome unties a 2-2 game in the eighth with a three-run homer off Santiago Casilla. Sox win 6-2.
June 10: Thome crushes a solo shot off Justin Verlander for the game’s first run in the seventh inning. Sox end up losing 2-1.
July 17: Thome doubles up the clutch, hitting a three-run homer with the score tied at 3 in the fifth inning. When the Orioles rally back to close it to 6-5, Thome responds with a grand slam. Sox win 12-8.
Aug. 5: Thome ties a game against the Angels with a solo shot in the fourth, and then hits a three-run shot to turn a 2-1 lead into a 5-1 lead.

Lord knows had we signed Thome
he would have clogged up the bases in those 9 games against NL lineups. What’s that you say? We wouldn’t have started him in those NL games anyway, regardless of whether we had signed him or not? Just like EVERY other year we had him? Hogwash.
It’s not robbing Peter to pay Paul — it’s bludgeoning Peter to death, and then realizing on the way back that you forgot to grab his wallet.

"'This is an issue Ozzie Guillen obviously feels very passionately about. Ozzie certainly has his own experiences as a player, coach and manager, and is entitled to his own opinions, but the Chicago White Sox believe his views are incorrect.'' - (What should be the) White Sox official statement (on the DH issue and coveting speed over OPS)
Please... allow me to sort this fodder out.
Point 1) Ozzie validates not bringing back Thome because he couldn’t play against NL teams, and the 2010 White Sox went 15-3 against the NL.
…. Rebuttal: White Sox play the remaining 144 of their 162 games against the AL, when Thome would play.
…. Rebuttal: Thome could have remained on the team, riding the bench, and the White Sox would’ve still gone 15-3 against the NL in 2010.
Point 2) Ozzie thinks Jermaine Dye did more for the White Sox than Jim Thome, and we should be crying about him instead
…. Rebuttal: Jim Thome from 2006-2009 = 12.9 WAR / Jermaine Dye from 2005-2009 = 6.4. (including 2 years of sub-replacement level play). Thome more than doubled Dye’s production despite playing one fewer season. If Ozzie’s point was that Dye helped win a WS and Thome did not, well, no one can argue that. Thome wasn’t on that team. Hard to win a WS for a team when you’re not on it. That was a retarded argument to make, Ozzie.
So, in addition to his major points which can be shot down using simple facts and stats, he has decided to blast the fan base and has dared Jerry/Kenny to fire him.
Honestly, I’ve had enough. I needed a mea culpa moment from this guy, and instead I got a tongue lashing. Thank you for 2005, now kindly get the bleep outta town and go to the NL or back to Venezuela.

I only meant that he go somewhere.
The NL or back to Venezuela, where he has family and friends, makes the most sense.

i think the NL given the context
b/c it shouldn’t matter that he’s from venezuela, right?

Ozzie is a fine manager. General Manager? Not so much.
Theain is the guy I Just can’t stand! pierre is almost as bad,he dose get on base more. If Quntin gets any worse trade him. WE NEED HELP!
Exactly.
That’s just it. Kenny shouldn’t really be consulting him about final decisions like this. He should just supply the toys, not ask Ozzie what kind of toys he wants.

this is my favorite part of the rant
“A lot of people in Chicago talk about Jim Thome. How about J.D.? I think Jermaine Dye did more stuff for the Chicago White Sox than Jim Thome did, with all my respect to Jimbo. What’s going on here? I don’t get it. Why do people forget about J.D.? People don’t even talk about J.D. at all.”

wild stab in the dark but maybe people talk about thome because he’s the one who can actually still play baseball well. this just goes to ozzie (and KW) recalling how players were a decade ago and still thinking they’re that same player. JD may well have done more. but he got paid his money for that and got his accolades for that (and, knowing the white sox, will get more in the future). doesn’t mean you pay the guy to play shitty baseball like they did last season or assume he still can play now.
the most idiotic part indeed

Not to mention...
just talking about 2010, Jermaine wanted more money than Thome (at least 4 times as much) and he wanted a guaranteed position in the field, one he has been fielding horribly for several years.
if only jd's manager was marsellus wallace
