wtf is wrong with thornton? would it have made any sense to try and hold on until roster expansion rather than dl him?
shit, shit shit.
thornton hasn't pitched since last tuesday.
so the move is retroactive to the 18th. he’s essentially available to come back right after roster expansion.
I don't think it's the end of the world.
Sale has been impressive though I’m not sure how many more innings he has left in him this year. Even though he gave up that game a couple of days ago, Jenks has been looking pretty good “stuff wise.” Besides, it’s hard to picture the pen performing any worse then it had been lately even with Thornton and Putz. This sin;t to say we need those two back as soon as possible.
Threets wasn't terrible
or not as terrible as Rannnndddy (or Linebrink).
It would seem key for Santos to recover from whatever’s bugging him. Think the league caught up to him?

so if ramirez comes on that meanst salary is being shipped out or JR is really opening the pocketbook..
I don’t think the Sox have any highly paid guys the dodgers would want so that seems to point to the latter. Maybe you ship out the 7 million or so Viciedo has left on his deal and the Dodgers pitch in 2-3 million as well. Then the 20 million or so owed Ramirez doesn’t quite look so bad and with Kong coming off the books next year it’s basically a wash.
that’s my quick and dirty analysis. I haven’t been following that close, so please be gentle.
They won't have to give anything...I think

BONER SOUP
It’s not robbing Peter to pay Paul — it’s bludgeoning Peter to death, and then realizing on the way back that you forgot to grab his wallet.
i think he's referring to the massive amount of deferred salary owed to manny. but a claiming team probably wouldn't be on the hook for most of that.
Manny Ramirez lf
2 years/$45M (2009-10)
* 2 years/$45M (2009-10)
o re-signed by LA Dodgers as free agent 3/4/09
o 09:$25M, 10:$20M (voidable)
o Ramirez must decide whether to opt out of final year of deal before fifth day after 2009 World Series or Nov. 10, whichever is later
o $30M deferred without interest:
+ for 2009, Ramirez receives $10M in 2009 and $15M in 3 installments of $5M paid each June 30, 2010 to 2012
+ if Ramirez does not opt out, he receives $5M in 2010 and $15M in 3 installments of $3,333,333 each on June 30, 2011 and 2012, and $8,333,333 on June 30, 2013
o full no-trade clause
o Ramirez to donate $1M to club charity
o Ramirez exercised 2010 player option 11/6/09
Wouldn't they be on the hook for the prorated amount for 2010?
"Inferstructure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" by Rhubarb, Aug. 19, 2010 5:59 PM
No one is going to pay for performance done prior to engaging their services.
Not usually, anyway. Any deferred amount for 2010 might be aggregated, then prorated, for 2010.
"Inferstructure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" by Rhubarb, Aug. 19, 2010 5:59 PM
any player sent to the dodgers would have to have cleared waivers or not be on the 40 man roster.
viciedo wouldn’t clear waivers. the only substantial salary that might clear would be linebrink.
who needs an expensive relief pitching reclamation project?
It’s a serious question BTW, would be unsurprised if the answer is “no one”, but who knows with payoff-cuspy teams?

Cameron logic
“The problem is that most teams perform better with men on base and runners in scoring position than they do in bases empty situations, so the Twins offensive performance in run scoring situations is worse relative to the rest of the league than it is with no one on base.”
Not necessarily, probably not at all.
by EddyStanky'sGhost on Aug 25, 2010 4:15 PM CDT up reply actions
No, that's fairly accurate
get a guy on base the pitcher goes into the stretch. mechanics are different. please see: lopez, javier.
And, most importantly
the fielders move into positions that afford less coverage because they have to keep the runners close.
oh, right.
selection bias, right? you’ll have more bad pitchers putting entries on the ‘have people on base’ side of things then not.

"Hur coomes der trayne!"
He is still being pitched to,
and he’s still killing it. DET has been scoring a ton of runs this last week. The Rhymes kid is doing quite well ahead of him, and Boesch is shaking his mid-season slump. They are all cocky again.

So he's getting walked once a day.
He is still being pitched to, and he’s killing it. Last 7 days – 7 G, 6 BB, 3K, .484 OBP, .583 SLG. Just so happens to coincinde with the Tiggers’ resurgence.
But your point is made. And so is mine.

they just played NYY
who dont have to pitch around anyone
but yeah ill call it a draw

Hoffman claimed by Sox
Trevor Hoffman claimed by White Sox. Want to work out a trade for him. Villanueva cleared waivers. White Sox perhaps interested in him too.
yuck, no thanks
Oz on Swish HR celeb: "That's the way he is. Good for him, enjoy it. I wish he could do it for me, he was a very horseshit player for me.''
In the back door!
Our bullpen answer, AND he’s marching toward 600! Just like General Soreness.

Somehow looking up Trevor Hoffman
on BR and I ended up on Octavio Dotel, laughing about the sponsor, which was some Oakland fan blaming him for blowing the 2004 season. Thought, “Hey, maybe I could do a humorous sponsorship!”
First place I check is Nick Punto, but somebody, an apparent Twins fan, beat me to it: “Follow along with the original M&M Boy and track a $4 million year of 240 foot pop-ups, missed sacrifice bunts, booted grounders and errant throws. Minnesota Twins! Get to know ‘em!”
Note that the writing makes it clear this is Twins fan…
Nobody sponsors Kotsay

More Mann on Manny Action
Sun-Times is writing in the past tense
The Dodgers appeared to be trying to negotiate a trade instead of allowing Ramirez to be claimed outright without compensation, with the Sox having only to pay his remaining salary.
Sources confirmed the Dodgers were reviewing scouting reports on some of the Sox minor league players in anticipation of a deal.
Theain is the guy I Just can’t stand! pierre is almost as bad,he dose get on base more. If Quntin gets any worse trade him. WE NEED HELP!

Peavy cleared for range of motion program, weights in 4 wks, hopes to throw by Jan. 1, off mound by spring training
Hopefully his intensity is intact.

KW would dig Joe DiMaggio from the grave if he had somehow played at Com2 and put up numbers like that. Getting Manny Ramirez even though a lot of those numbers are a decade old is EZ.
