Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

No prospect(s) sent to the Dodgers, just a straight waiver claim in which the White Sox assume Ramirez' remaining salary of approximately $4 million (most of which is deferred).

Ramirez will not make it to Cleveland in time to be in uniform tonight.

That’s what I get the upgrade as, too.

Obviously, the Twins are still the favorite, but there aren’t many 1-win upgrades for a month that a team can get from a single player at this point.

The teaser’s a bit on the provocative side. Monte Carlo-ing it out, I get a 6 win/162 game improvement enough to improve the White Sox odds from about 8% to about 15% at this point.

if you want to be able to calculate this yourself, it's

(Manny’s wOBA – Kotsay’s)/1.15*expected PAs

the best place to go for wOBA projections is fangraphs, since they have Rest Of Season ZiPS projections that auto-update given the current season’s data. i’ll be generous to Kotsay and use a .320 wOBA. Manny’s projected for ~.400. 30 games left times 4 PAs per game is 120 PA.

plug it all in and you get about 8 runs.

i didn't realize my statement was ambigous.

he’s not going to play tonight. they’re not going to want to make a roster move unless they have to because the ideal move would probably be a blowout (hopefully in favor of white sox) where lucas harrell pitches 3+ innings and they can send him down tomorrow.

Tonight will be Kotsay's 4HR, 11RBI opus,

also, he gets walked because the Indians don’t want to give up the first 5 HR game in MLB history, so he just steals 2nd, 3rd and home.

And he makes a real good play at 1b. Heard it here first.

In the words of another of my tainted heroes: Love is too weak a word for what I feel for this move -- I lurve it, you know, I loave it, I loff it (two F's).

Manny is a hitting savant. There is literally no other player that I can think of (other than those who are ridiculously unavailable) that I would rather have gotten at this point.

I could be completely wrong, but I think this has an excellent chance of working well. Very well. Like seriously, incredibly well.

by The Actual El Guapo on Aug 30, 2010 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

Oh, I can see he and Ozzie getting along just famously.

And if the “clique” (PK, AJ, et. al) didn’t enjoy FNS’ theatrics or OrCa’s self-absorption Manny should be a real treat for them.

Actually, I think that part of it may work out particularly well.

Manny is not a self-promoting, attention-whore asshole like Swisher. He’s a genius. Geniuses are … well, weird.

I have a feeling Ozzie is smart enough to know (and the rest of the team is mature enough to realize) that it’s ok to treat geniuses differently than regular people because they are weird. If anything, Ozzie is likely to take the pressure off by deflecting some attention away from Manny.

by The Actual El Guapo on Aug 30, 2010 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

i suppose it’s pretty likely that Cowley has more than one in on the team, but couldn’t it be Ozzie’s doing all the way?
