Sox Machine: Jackson's Upcoming Schedule
I’d say that Jackson’s slider has to show more bite, and he needs to hit the mitt and miss better his next time out, but after looking through the rest of the schedule, I don’t think that’s necessary. Here’s what he has to contend with if everybody stays on schedule (league rank in OPS):
* Aug. 9: Baltimore (13th)
* Aug. 14: Detroit (6th)
* Aug. 20: Kansas City (9th)
* Aug. 26: Baltimore (13th)
* Aug. 31: Cleveland (12th)
* Sept. 6: Detroit (6th)
* Sept. 11: Kansas City (9th)
* Sept. 17: Detroit (6th)
* Sept. 22: Oakland (11th)
* Sept. 28: Boston (1st)
* Oct. 3: Cleveland (12th)

Was just going to post this as a comment. Looks much better this way.

in 9 starts (3xMIN, 2xTEX, TOR, NYY, LAA, TBR)
he’s 4-2 with an ERA of 4.09, whip of 1.42, k/bb of 1.65…not a horrible line for a 5th starter

He has been a surprisingly good fifth starter.
But he’s still, rather obviously, the fifth starter. Those peripherals are scary; he’s really fortunate he has had some incredible luck this year.

incredible luck that we can seem to count on almost every time out.
I guess thats why they play the games?
I don't count on it. I continue to be pleasantly surprised whenever it happens,
but if he drops off the table today, I’m not going to be the least bit surprised.

i think people are worried this his very good command will abandon him and he'll turn into a pumpkin.
I'm not worried about his command leaving him
I’m worried about him going on the DL, he hasn’t had this kind of workload since ‘06. I wouldn’t mind seeing them skip him in the rotation if we have a day off.

His numbers have been pretty much the same all year.
He just had a hot streak.

Don Cooper has done a great job of putting him a position to succeed
this can’t be just coincidence. Builds confidence and allows him to work on his new mechanics or what ever Coop is “adjusting”. Could be Jim already covered this but I haven’t made it over to SM yet.
it can be a coincidence.
cooper said he’d laid out a schedule for his starters for the rest of the season prior to the trade deadline. you can assume this was hudson’s schedule and jackson is just stepping in.
I can see Cooper developing the schedule for Hudson
handing him some cake but then I guess it would be a coincidence that Jackson steps into Hudson role and reaps the rewards of what did not start out as a coincidence. Either way, this is good stuff and bodes well for Jackson moving forward.
makes sense to me.
and regardless of how hudson would fare against these weak teams, if they think jackson is a better pitcher right now, i’d still rather have him going than hudson. pros and cons for sure though!
I didn't have a problem jettisoning Hudson.
I guess my initial reaction did not take into account the big picture, which several folks have spelled out here on SSS, which is value over time. I am going to live in the now and say I like the trade.
Your welcome joewho112.
I have seen your analysis and others analysis and I agree with the value over time quandry but you can’t change what happened so I am looking on the positives for this season. That and if Jackson appears to be “fixed” and does well down the stretch, does this not raise his value in the offseason for possible trades?
Cool.
Lets get some good carmel on Jackson’s side for this season seeing as we are “stuck” with him. He can definitely improve on last nights start and be a nice piece down the stretch. Then hopefully kenny can move him in the offseason to put that 8mil in another hole.
I meant caramel.
It is from a Sealab 2021 episode. Someone kept saying bad caramel instead of karma and everyone else kept trying to correct him but he wouldn’t have it and kept saying caramel. It was either Murphy or Marco, I think.
I hate Marco

I say he goes a total of 8-2 or 7-3
And we hear all the stories about this critical acquisition…..
"it’s over, tdogg.
no. it’s not unlike me. when i make an unqualified statement, it means i’m sure i’m right" Larry
His record, or the team's record in those games?
The rest of the way I think the team goes 8 – 3.. although with Hudson, I’d have thought something like 7 – 4, considering the opponents are pretty much horseshit.
Jackson finishes up 6 – 3 in those 11 games, with two bullpen victories. Couple close losses and one game where he gets rocked.

don't give up man
but you might need some RR seasoning. lets see you toss up, say, 2 fan shots talking about waiver wive movements, 1 fan post about Dye vs Delgado and 5 solid comments in the prospect thread. you need the reps.

I would like someone off the RR
to actually put together a serious piece on Delgado vs. Dye. That would be very humorous and delightening.
Jackson is my new favorite Jackson who played for the Sox and also wore shoes
sorry, Darrin.

Since Jackson is here and I have to let go........
I caught some of the end of the game. I have to admit, I did smile seeing a starting pitcher hit 97 on a gun in a seventh inning. Hell ANY inning. Who is the last Sox starter that threw that hard? Younger Count?

Granted I know guns vary and am not sure how Comerica’s rates.

Not that I really care if we get him or not
but if the Sox offer him something and he doesn’t take it, he is a freaking idiot. What other contender does he think he has even a remote shot of making the roster?
Hey the Bulls held a grudge against McGrady.

I thought they helped him out by hyping him up?
Though supposedly it was a favor for his agent more than him.
lol
I dont really know, I was just kidding. It was to Mark G’s point about the Sox or Reinsdorf remembering the rejection earlier. McGrady did it on a grander stage to his boy Krause.

they're both about that far from their primes too.

perhaps delgado is far from prime, but he still posted a high obp and slg in a limited number of games last year

My assumption was
the angst over the schedule and the call up of Torres had to do with keeping Freddy in position where he’d get the maximum rest. So I’d expect to see him on the first or last day of a series more often than not to take advantage of off days.
Just glancing at the schedule it looks like it.
Comonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn You White Sox!
tea leaves
Manager Ozzie Guillen hinted that Dayan Viciedo might be in Thursday’s lineup and when he wasn’t, general manager Ken Williams seemed the most shocked.
Williams took his first look at the batting order, and while not upset, he wondered aloud about the omission of the big third baseman.
Guillen was ready with an answer.
"I did (want to play Viciedo Thursday), but I had a meeting with my coaching staff," Guillen said. "Viciedo will play in Baltimore. I think this kid (Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer) has good enough stuff and we have to take Viciedo step by step."
The White Sox open a four game series at Baltimore on Friday (the series will conclude Monday at Camden Yards).
"The way we are doing it right now is a good thing," Guillen said. "He will play two out of four games in Baltimore and continue to play. My job is to find the best matchup (against) a pitcher, especially when you are a kid. The matchup today was not the best one for him."

that there is conflict between kw and ozzie on viciedo's current value to the team
means that he may not be the one to be sent down?

Its sort of a chess match right now but some upgrades are still possible with very little cost except money.
