Manny Ramirez Has Magical On-Deck HR-Inducing Powers
Who says there's no such thing as protection?
Manny's been on the Sox for 2 days. Twice he's stepped into the on deck circle in the late innings. And twice the batter in front of him has hit go-ahead, ultimately game-winning 3 run homeruns.
That's all the evidence I need.
The Sox haven't lost with Manny on the roster, and just completed their first sweep since July.
There are 29 games left; I doubt the Sox lose another one.

We have converted our team into an AL team. Winning in the NL is now impossible.

Rob Dibble made headlines twice last month for controversial comments about female baseball fans and Stephen Strasburg’s elbow injury, and today MASN and the Nationals announced that he’s been let go as the team’s television analyst.
I’ve written quite a bit about Dibble recently, so I won’t rehash all my points again, but suffice it to say there are a lot of happy Nationals fans right now.
Ultimately telling Strasburg to “suck it up” and “stop crying” when it turned out he had an elbow injury that requires Tommy John surgery is what cost Dibble his job, but even setting aside the various controversies he could have just as easily been fired for simply being a terrible announcer.
Dibble was a Hawk Harrelson-level homer, except without any of the charm, story-telling ability, clever phrase-turning, or worthwhile analysis. He was just all grunts and low-brow machismo, and no real baseball fan tunes into a game to hear that garbage. I’m sure he’ll land on his feet with another prominent gig, because “loud” and “controversial” can generate ratings, but for now at least he’s no longer in the same profession as Vin Scully.
whats wrong with being a homer?
so the fuck what…and what organization would pay a person to do their play by play if they werent a homer for their team?

It has to do with
more memories of absolute beat-downs by the White Sox than the Twins. Plus the fact that we own them in Detroit. A lot has to do with the ‘traditional’ Chicago-Detroit rivalry. And they’re mad that we don’t care about them.

Danks – 3.65 vs. Liriano – 3.27
Floyd – 3.86 vs. Pavano 3.52
Buehrle – 3.96 vs. Baker 4.55
Jackson – 1.47 vs. Duensing – 2.04
And it’s debatable that Duensing is their 4, so even Blackburn @ 6.02 or Slowey (coming back in a few weeks) @ 4.39 is significantly worse than what EW has done for us.

It’s nice to look at how teams do H2H, but that shows how important those are at the end of the day – it’s all about making it to the postseason and giving yourself a chance each year. Obviously we won’t be facing the Twins in the playoffs should we make it this year, so that’s obsolete. You would take Min’s rotation over ours going into a 5 or 7 game series in the postseason?

We're somewhat better in the rotation, they're way better offensively and defensively and have a better bullpen.
That = way better talent-wise.

we can't base it off one game so far
but I’d like to think w/o KotsayDH and Manny’s magical on-deck powers that our offense is closer than theirs being “way better”, at least until Morneau comes back.

I just don’t think overall they’re “way better.” Way more consistent, yes. Better? Yes. But “way better”, no.

Yeah but it worked!
By the numbers
(UZR) he’s having an off the charts year. Yes, he’s the Sox best defensive player (or rather 1A with Rios), but two isn’t enough to make up for the difference between the Twins.
And Sox fans, get over the idea that Konerko is some wiz at first. He’ll make the occasional nice play, but he’s not Joey Votto, no matter what Hawk says.

no knock on che
but one of the reasons GG is such a bullshit award is you’d have to watch an unreal amount of baseball to get a proper gauge of a player’s defense and how it stacks up against other players at the same position. it’s all reputation and word of mouth.
that being said, che is playing great
this is my problem
how do you know? how much baseball do you watch? do you really think it’s a lot more than me? or the rest of us? defense evaluation is uncertain.
Fireworks: Bang?
It's called mulititasking
and being capable of being a fan of more than one team in a town I’ve grown up my whole life in. I never claimed to be an expert like you or some others do. Besides check WCG, I post there too and I even mange to work for a living too. Wow Imagine that.
Yeah but it worked!
his point.
is that you’d have to watch a whole hell of a lot of baseball – and probably not work for a living – to be able to adequately opine on him being the best in the league. particularly with the addition of “right now”, which would imply that you have watched multiple games each day.
i do think you literally couldn't hold down a job
and watch enough baseball to know who was best in a 14 team league.
Fireworks: Bang?
Well Well turns out that I've watched every game this year.
And saying that Ramirez is the best defensive SS in the league isn’t stretch at all and it doesn’t take a genius or Baseball servant to come to a conclusion or assumption that Alexi is playing the best at his position right now without being treated like he just Jenks is the best closer in baseball or something silly like that.

Fireworks: Bang?
I was actually replying to Larry
I have no problem with being wrong or thought of as being wrong. Just my opinion
Yeah but it worked!
and how many games have you seen of his top competitors?
saying you’ve watched every sox game does nothing to counter larry’s point.
Look
The opinion was given that Ramirez is the best defensive SS in baseball by me. Others felt I was wrong and also said that I’d have to watch every game to come to that conclusion. I’m saying that in MY opinion he’s the best and a GG SS by what I’ve seen. Larry said that because I post on Blogabull I don’t watch that much baseball. Then I said I’ve watched every game and that why I feel that way. So you’re kinda catching on to different comments for different things.
But with that said, I have a hard time thinking of anyone else who’s playing a better SS that Ramirez. It’s my opinion.
Yeah but it worked!
larry's point with blogabull
was that perhaps the reason you have a hard time thinking of anyone else is that with the rest of our lives going on, it is damn near impossible to be able to gauge every shortstop in the league.
When I was a kid, I didn't want to be a doctor or a fireman. I wanted to be Super Mario. It's the most literal pipe dream I've ever had.

i'm assuming you mean he's the best in the AL (or nearly so)
probably not. on the other hand, the FSR has him up there:

i do believe that alexei has the worst rep of the top three though. i’ll cross myself and say you can get away with calling him GG caliber.

Idk.
Those rating say Alexei has better hands and a stronger arm. Coupled with his (Alexei’s) offensive ability (read: power) I would have a tough time picking one over the other if I’m starting a baseball team.

Where do you get that idea?
I was using the measurements used in that article. It’s not a vacuum argument, offensive production matters. I think it’s very fair to say that their defense is a toss up, probably with the edge going to Andrus.
Given that Alexei has very comparable defensive stats and better offensive numbers, it’s not an easy answer.

you also come from the "i'll answer the question i want to answer and not the one the other people are talking about" school.
And you have a
masters from the ‘complete and total asshole’ school. We can do this all night. But let’s not.

What the fuck exactly is your problem
with my assertion that if I had to pick between Ramirez and Andrus it wouldn’t be an easy choice? Jesus, you’re a condescending pos.

the point was who was better on defense.
then, expressing doubt on who was better, you bring offense into it to make your decision. which doesn’t have anything to do with defense.
that is probably his problem.
Ok so what is wrong with someone
saying ramirez is the best defensively? What is so crazy about saying that?
Yeah but it worked!
Now let's hope if he goes on to manage the Sox 20 years from now
that he knows the importance of having a real DH for the full season.

i had assumed you were
sinning against your strongly held beliefs and were crossing yourself as such.
Im late to this party but you and Larry need to get of this crap
you guys are wrong about Alexei. He’s not an average shortstop. No he doesn’t have 3 years yet but his UZR rating over 2 he played there and plus/minus over the same time period have as 1 of the best. Not that hard to admit it.
And why the hell is Andrus better Larry?

First and only player to be named Elvis
Duh, he’s the King Tdogg.
Reporter: I was wondering if at any point in my lifetime the Cubs weren't going to be run by a guy who didn't immediately remind me of failure, confusion, or imminent death
he's better in every category
except arm, where i’d rate them the same or perhaps an edge to alexei.
hater
and I disagree. I don’t think he’s range is better and I don’t think he arm is as good and after cuban whoops his ass again next year its ova!

With all of that being said...
If the Sox handled their business against the Royals and Orioles none of that would matter…Sad.
Yeah but it worked!
Don't forget the Tigers.
