Why are you a Sox fan?

First off, I have to say thanks to Cheat, Jim, larry, U-God, and colin for being funny, analytical, and sarcastic. Thank you KenWo for the R&R (Rantings and Ratings). TP and HSA, you are missed.

I've been a lurker on this blog for quite a while. As a Sox fan living in Bloomington, Indiana, I'd follow gameday while reading the gamethread. Due to a lack of CSN and blackout rules on mlb.tv I was only able to watch games on WGN (or at a bar).

During this time SSS taught me about metrics, made me aware of the players in our farm system, and confirmed my hypothesis that smart men and women are able to make jokes about the taint.

I'm a Sox fan because of Frank Thomas. Most of my family and many of my friends were Cubs fans while I was growing up. I liked the Cubs by default for a few years, then The Big Hurt came on the scene. I was playing first base at the time in the 8-9 year old league, and he quickly became my favorite player to watch and emulate.

The '94 season was by far the most time I spent watching TV during summer break. I'd watch Frank, Robin, Ozzie, Cora, One-Dog, Raines, Blackjack, Alvarez, Hernandez, etc. and then be inspired to kick some ass in my evening games. I loved playing ball and I loved watching the Sox. Unfortunately the strike buried the White Sox' hopes for a title in '94.

From then on. I was a Sox fan for life.

What hooked everyone else?
