Catdaddy agrees !!
Sabermetrics hurt my head, just give me the facts.
I probably would've put "Unless..." instead of "Hooray!"
Whales! Squids! Sharks! They're everywhere! Hello, I am Poseidon! Now, when people told me I was crazy that thinly sliced roast beef would be a delicious fast-food option, I knew it was the greatest idea, and you can thank me later for Arby's.
But "Hooray!" is so much happier!
"Many people need desperately to receive this message: 'I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.'"
"Hooray" is justified
Previous news reports implied the Sox felt the need to replace Pierre with something Pierre-like. Recognizing that De Aza kicked ass last season is a comparative triumph in talent evaluation. Not enough for me to forgive picking up Frasor but I’ll let that go if they manage to trade Crain for something useful…but probably, I should just be satisfied with the Sox not re-signing Pierre.

welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well
to what do I owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?
I love seasons too. That's why I live in a place that skips the shitty ones.

probably also reflects off-season plans
not shopping for a “leadoff” hitter
Maybe I'm just new to baseball but...
Why do we keep reading that De Aza isn’t a typical leadoff guy? He’s fast and his hit numbers have only improved since the first time he put on a Sox uniform. Is it b/c he doesn’t walk enough/ strikes out too much?
The ‘12 season will only be my fourth year of watching baseball so maybe I’m missing something obvious, but I don’t see any problem with him batting first in the lineup

No, you're doing good.
There are two reasons why they keep bringing up the “prototypical leadoff hitter” thing.
1) The walks. De Aza doesn’t see a lot of pitches. He’s not exactly a happy hacker, but he can go a couple weeks without drawing a walk, and that’s become unusual as more and more teams started valuing OBP over batting average.
This is a valid criticism. Problem is, the same can be said about Juan Pierre, who these same beat writers consider a “prototypical leadoff hitter.” Which means their definition is more…
2) De Aza hasn’t hit first in a major league lineup for years and years.

yah i don't get it either.
just because he hasn’t hit leadoff before doesn’t mean that he isn’t a prototypical leadoff hitter. he’s fast and gets a lot of hits. the same as pierre. only de aza has some gap power.
Kenwo4life=ratings. Just call me Mr. USA Today.
Except Pierre also never strikes out.
That’s gotta be good for some grindy points with the beat writers.
Also, De Aza seems to be almost “reliant” on BABIP. At this late hour I’m wondering what that means as he moves forward. His line drive rate was not through the roof in limited playing time this year.

Plus the beat writers in this city suck when it comes to actually knowing something about baseball.
Phil Rogers…come on.
To my knowledge, certain things were not known.

I think Pierre walked less….or run for that matter!

This is all irrelevant after he wins the MVP next year my friend

you're overthinking it guys
he’s not a prototypical leadoff hitter because his career high in stolen bases is 12.
we had pierre and pods for years. the sbs are the difference.
