Shoeless Joe Jackson talks about the Black Sox scandal of 1919
"I had been acquitted by a twelve-man jury in a civil court of all charges and I was an innocent man in the records. I have never made any request to be reinstated in baseball, and I have never made any campaign to have my name cleared in the baseball records. This is not a plea of any kind. This is just my story."

Wow, as told to Furman Bisher.
He’s still alive, 93 years old. I wonder how much he remembers of Shoeless Joe.
Thanks
The man had a great attitude. No regrets.
If Philly fans were the same then as they are today I can understand why he didn’t like it there.

Did shoeless joe open Jimmy’s in Hyde park?

"It was a sort of pool room and sports center and I got a lot of business from the University students. "
Depends on what he means by “sports center” as Jimmy’s is a bit small for that.
55th Street used to have a lot of bars before the university cleaned it up; maybe Jackson’s establishment was down the street from Jimmy’s?
Looking into it
A friend is looking into this for me. I know that corner used to have a lot of bars at one point, but it would be extra-neat if it were Jimmy’s.
In any case, it would have been nice to have a “Joe’s” for the Sox fans to go watch games during the season. D’oh.

The statistics he put up during the world series
would suggest that he was actually playing. I don’t know how batting .375 in the World Series is throwing it.
he never testified against the other players tho, did he?
perhaps consider that money paid to keep his mouth shut.
