Gordon Beckham's Faux Pas
Via Telander of the Sun-Times. Gordon Beckham wrote some inappropriate comments in the infield dirt to his old buddy Chris Getz during last Monday's game versus the Royals. Apparently, that's not really who he is, and he doesn't use slurs.

You're gay.

I stopped using it a while back because I realized I sounded like a 12 year old boy.
Saying, “That’s gay” all the time. Then I took a 3 credit hour cultural diversity class and stopped saying things like that altogether. The me of about 5+ years ago probably would’ve done the same thing he did and laughed about it. I think that’s kinda the point. Grow up, man.

I never really used the word as a negative thing
Did not feel right, even when I was a kid. Some of my friends (obviously the ones who are not gay) still say it and they sound like they are 13. I don’t even make a comment about it, they are the ones who sound like idiots.
My godmother is a lesbian with a partner of 10+ years and adopted kids and my parents have gay friends so I was exposed to homosexuality early and it was never “weird” to me.
Anyways, I’d imagine its use as a word with a negative connotation is gone within 10 years.
Not if my generation can help it.

Louis CK had a good joke about this subject.
Andy Sisco has spent the last four years in a hospital bed with liquid fire shooting through his veins and small-town malcontent Jim Margalus has nothing to offer him but scorn. ~ big_fun
