White Sox Minor League Update

Salvador Sanchez, who spent six seasons as an outfielder, has converted to pitcher and is with Great Falls.  Here's an article about him.  Scouting report from his two outings so far is encouraging: fastball in the mid 90s with decent movement and he's also throwing a slider and change.  Of course, he's really, really far away from the majors.

i see that stewart has it figured out as far as what is required to be a white sox starting pitcher.

no walks, scatter a bunch of hits without giving up a big one, tough loss.
might as well call him up now, he has nothing left to learn.

by your assessment, is Addison Reed major league ready for a bullpen spot? Doesn’t seem he has much left to prove in the minors.

Sox bullpen is seemingly quite crowded after Frasor deal.

5) Zach Stewart SP: Chicago White Sox for Edwin Jackson

Toronto swung Stewart to the White Sox in exchange for Jackson, then used Jackson as to distract St. Louis as they stole Colby Rasmus.

Quick tanget on that trade: Man, what a great move for the Blue Jays! Alex Anthopoulos will be the No. 1 pick in all fantasy GM drafts next spring. With Rasmus and Yunel Escobar I believe Anthopoulos has found the new market inefficiency: jerks. Not to say that Rasmus and/or Escobar are actually jerks, but they’re talented/young/cost-controlled players with impressive upside who’s on-field value was undervalued by their former clubs due largely to off-field matters. ‘Jerks’ sounds a lot better than that. What it lacks in nuance it makes up for in catchiness. I like it. I’m sticking with it. It’s not always choir boys who win. Give me talent. Tangent over, I now return you to your regularly scheduled prospect list.

Stewart works in the low-90’s with his sinking-fastball and has an above-average slider. His drew solid reviews for the improvement in his changeup at Double-A but has used it sparingly in his brief big league stay. If the improvement in his change makes its way to mound on the South Side, Stewart ought to be a very solid No. 3 starter and worm-burner.

If Stewart turned into a 3 or 4 that would be pretty nice.

that's pretty different

from what he showed in those 3 starts. obvs you know this, just letting everyone else know that it seems like his scouting reports from the minors all sound better than what he showed in the majors.

So fast he could hit a ball up the middle and it would hit him in the ass sliding into second.

4) Zach Stewart, RHP, Grade B+: He hasn’t lived up to my expectations, but he can still be a useful inning-eater type. 4.20 ERA with 79/27 K/BB in 101 innings for New Hampshire, 116 hits. Made three major league starts. Traded to White Sox.

Watching what showing up to US Cellular Field (my girlfriend asked if the Sox were playing tonight, and I responded that they were attending a game at the Cell, I didn’t know if they’d play) it has been and I might be a little punchy at results that look bad to the eye.

Also the Sox seemed to think that a little over a week of sample size was enough to call him up…

I don't think its question on whether Milledge can hit mlb pitching. He's not AAAA

He has a .723 OPS over 1600 PA. He’s not the greatest but clearly he can play in the show.

I could care less about Milledge

I am not tooting his horn or advocating a promotion for him. His defense is probably a little better than he’s showed and he probably can be a .750 OPS guy in the right situation. He can play in the show. I see plenty of bad baseball players that are already there. That’s all I’m saying and its not crazy.
