"If you are looking for a good and quick treat, mosey on over to Hardees or KFC." -Jessy S
According to the Brooks chart, every called strike for the Rangers has been in the zone.
Holland pretty much painted the inside corner with two fastballs to K Lillibridge and Alexei.
Yep, couple of good calls there.
In fact, Holland threw two pitches at the top of the zone that were called balls. So if anything, the pitchers aren’t getting the high strike.

you play him everyday and I doubt he produces like he does
He has proven he can be overexposed, he can slam fastballs but cannot hit breaking stuff. Dunn is okay at first, platooning them is probably the best idea right now
I don't think it's a question of sturdiness
Looking at him, he’s a muscled up little man under than uniform.
I think it’s more a question of whether he can actually perform in anything other than short bursts.
I hope De Aza and Viciedo are both starting in the outfield next year.
Except that means either benching Rios or trading Quentin.
"That baseball is the smartest thing out on that field." —Hawk Harrelson
See if Rios can play first..
Rios, Q, PK, Dunn, De Aza, Viciedo all getting reps between DH, 1B and the OF spots. You’d get enough at bats for all of them, especially when you consider Dunn can’t play against lefties, De Aza could still be exposed, Q and PK have injury issues and Viciedo will be a rookie.

Coming into today, Dunn made fewer outs per plate appearance this season than the following White Sox players:
Gordon Beckham
Omar Vizquel
Brent Morel
Alex Rios
(Also a several pitchers and guys like Teahen, Milledge, Dallas McPherson, and the great Donny Lucy, who as we all know has been the victim of umpire error, being called out for not touching a base because he actually hovers three inches above the ground).

We are not paying Dunn $56M to walk
His job is to drive in runs. Period.
Take a look at his LOB stats.
There is absolutely nothing positive that can be said about Dunn’s performance this year. He has been far worse than the average AL hitter, let alone AL designated hitters.

No one is saying he hasn't been a huge disappointment this season.
But to straight up say that he is the most automatic out we have on the team is just ignorant and completely false.

Yup
Its always been part of the Dunn package, lots of strike outs, lots of walks and the part we are missing this year the home runs.
Walking and getting on base is a good thing, better than striking out. The Cubs are very anti-walk (led the majors and all four of their minor teams in fewest walks) and look where it got them.
I understand the frustration because I am too, but its a waste of energy IMO to just sit and figure out ways to be angry at him. Plenty of obvious reasons why to be disappointed.
i did not say he was the most automatic out in the lineup
So calm on the “ignorance”. You want to defend Dunn, fine, go for it. Coupla walks, same number of hr as lillibridge, and plenty of rally-killing ab’s. No confidence. Sorry, the team looked a hell of a lot livelier without his .168 in the middle of the order. Dont care who got paid what or why.
by spengler on Aug 21, 2011 4:30 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
haha now youre getting technical
Of course you can’t. His automaticity (word?) Is entirely subjective.
Yes he still draws walks. Today sox scored 10, and his bloated rearend was straining the pine.
by spengler on Aug 21, 2011 4:36 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
i'm not arguing with your opinion, i'm done with him this year too,
but you had to know someone here would pick up on the ‘automatic out’ part, especially after elgonzo4sox took the prompt to run with ‘we don’t pay him to walk’, which is probably the most provocative thing anyone can say in sss.
thats fine
But the list of players given as having made more outs per pa than dunn a) is a pretty sad list and b) does not include anyone who could take Dunn’s position in the lineup as dh or 1b. Hell lilli is a stretch (pun?) At 1st, and I’m gonna go ahead and assume that no one suggested Dunn play second base.

why do people always bring the money up?
Its not like you are paying it..
Dunn has been getting on base more lately, its a start to what is hopefully a turn around by the start of next year. He started out great until the damn appendix
Time for an economics lesson
Jerry does not print money, or get it from a hole in the ground. He gets it from the fans, sponsors, TV contract, etc. Sponsors and TV give the Sox money so that their messages can reach the fans. So the true source of the money Jerry and the Sox spend on Dunn is the fans.
Baseball is life.
